About

Welcome to Heart Hook Home – I am so glad you’re here!

My name is Ashlea Konecny and I am a wife, mother of two young boys, and yarn enthusiast. In addition to my love of all things fiber related, I also sew, I’ll hot glue just about anything, and I dabble in woodworking. I’m lucky that my husband loves to cook – I have been known to burn macaroni & cheese – so I let him do all the cooking while I stick to fiber of the yarn variety. I only eat the recipes on Heart Hook Home that my husband Paul creates.

My passion for crochet started about five years ago when my little brother Forrest taught me to crochet over the Christmas holiday. Something he told me during our first lesson that I’ve never forgotten: “it’s just one strand of yarn, you can’t screw it up so badly that you can’t rip it out and start again”. He was right, and I haven’t been able to put down the hook since!

I also love to read, and since that isn’t conducive to crochet, I spend most of my crochet time listening to audio books while I work. I would spend every day “reading” and crocheting if I could!

Since starting Heart Hook Home, I have been featured on Country Living, Martha Stewart, in Chickens magazine, Homespun magazine, Wichita magazine, and on Buzz Feed and Little Things. I am thrilled to have reached millions and millions of like-minded fiber enthusiasts!

My husband and I have two boys. Our oldest son Caden has a rare and severe heart defect, Truncus Arteriosus (type 2), that has required three open-heart surgeries to date, with a probability of more in the future. He is the reason for the “HEART” in Heart Hook Home. Our youngest son Cameron is a LEGO enthusiast, a Beatles lover, an aspiring musician, and an avid sports fan.

Be sure to join over 65,000 other fiber and crochet enthusiasts in my Facebook group, Heart Hook Home Crochet Community. Should you wish to get a hold of me or work with me, feel free to contact me or reach out to [email protected].  Again, thank you for visiting, I hope you’ll stay in touch and come back often!

Hi Ashlea! I love your patterns I have bought several, I love your FB page , your blog , and your you tube channel .. I have couple questions regarding the bombshell bomber Cardigan ... would lion brand heartland or lion brand jeans yarns work with this pattern ? And as far as sizing , my bust is 40 ' then my target size would be 38 ' but I don't know which way to go as the large size says 40' and the med is 36.5"... thank you in advance... dawn

Hi Dawn! Both of those yarns are classed as worsted so either one will work for this pattern. As for sizing, I would probably go with the Large. Hope this helps!

Fell in love with your Cozy Coed Cardigan!! Always have crocheted, picked it up more seriously after hubby passed. Going to my first crochet retreat( didn’t know they existed) in April. Bag-O-Day is having it. Joined your Instagram page as well. Crochet all day everyday! Lucky me!

Hi Ashlea,so glad to find you on YouTube. I’m 86yrs young and starting a new phase in life. I’m not quite computer savvy yet. I want to crochet for charity. I love the 30 minute easy beanie I tried to get the pattern. Do I have to join fb or Pinterest. I have a old computer but I can download on adobe from an email address or can I purchase from you? Do you have a book? Looking forward to being one of your many friends.

Hi Ashlea, Please forgive me for writing here. I hope that you can control whether or not this appears on the pattern. I have been a member of HHH Facebook group for over a year, I believe. I had just started crocheting again, afteu years of being away from it. I was thrilled to find an online group, and readily joined your group. I subscribed to your blog also, and when able, watched your live videos. Unfortunately, I have suffered from a lot of arthritis in my hand, and have to stop crocheting for now, until after I have surgery next year. Because of the arthritis, I don't spend a lot of time online, and visit your group periodically. I have made comments, but have not made my own post until earlier today. I was surprised that my post had to be approved first, as if I were a new member. Prior to today, and while I was still active, I somehow I would often realize that I wasn't getting your emails anymore, and I would subscribe again. I had thought about not getting your emails again, but today, I decided to write to you about both. Is there any way to stay on your email list, and also keep an active membership? I had hoped to do so privately, but unfortunately, I have no idea how to anymore. If by chance this does post to this pattern, please feel free to delete this. I have enjoyed your group and your patterns. Your patterns are always written so well, they are easy to follow. Thank you Ashlae, Cindy S

Hi Cindy! I am sorry you are having issues with the email subscription and will look into that when I get back from vacation. As for the posts in our community, that is something new that we have been doing...all posts to that group now have to be approved, so it's not just you. If in the future, you feel you need to privately get ahold of me, you can always send me a message via e-mail or my Heart Hook Home facebook page. Hope this helps!

About 60 years ago, my mother thought me to crochet, knit, sew and during my life I loved doing something with yarn, but after retiring I start looking for groups like yours. Living on East Coast, preparing to move to Kansas area next year, I am excited and terrified the same time.

Howdy! I am your newest follower here, but I have been in your FB group and I love the warmth and encouragement and the sense of family. I am originally from Hutchinson,Kansas. Well, until I moved to Washington State. Left to get out of a traumatic situation. This year my husband and I have celebrated fourteen years of marriage. They are beautiful and hard at the same time. We both have some serious health issues. Too disabled to work. I have a heart condition called Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia with Left Ventricular Diastolic Dysfunction with three valves regurgitating along with fluid in between the lining of my heart and the heart itself. In addition to this I have a plethora more comorbid conditions. I am currently on twenty seven medications and I still need two more. My husband's heart is enlarged and he has a disease that is enlarging his internal organs other than his heart. I have found my comfort in crocheting for others, just to bring comfort to them. I am praying for your family and especially your son. May God bless you richly and abundantly. Have a wonderful day ahead!

Hi I just started crocheting. Im so new to all this but I was recently troubled by a slipper project im working on. I managed to make one, but it was a light blue colour. This one is made with black yarn! Ive never worked with dark colours before, and I was almost ready to give up because my family prefer the darker shades, then I saw your hacks! Using a bright coloured bobbypin to mark your place....of course! its so simple and yet unheard of for some reason because everyone i asked couldnt help me. Im so glad i found your site. Now i can continue this new hobby which i so enjoy . thanks!

There was a popup on my phone to unmute but it did not work. I know it's not a video that shows how to make the hoodie from start to finish as there are different sizes but believe that there are useful tips that I do not want to miss out on. What can I do? Hello! Sorry for any confusion, but I did not add sound to the video. As it is a companion video, not a tutorial, I felt captions would be better. The video is intended to show the color planning, the construction and the basic principles of the written pattern. Am I suppose to cut the yarn after I have fastened off the previous 1-43 rows? If so where do I start to chain 16 and where does Row 1 come in then? Thank you so much for your help.

Hello, Ashlea I really enjoyed reading your story, prayers for your son and your family. I watched one of your videos on YouTube today for the first time and I loved it, not just the way you simplify how to make the item, but how friendly and up beat you seem on the video, anyone would be lucky to be your friend. God has truly blessed you, keep your spirit up you sound like a beautiful person. Now I have one question about crochet, I am self taught for about 6 years now and the one thing u can't figure out is how to make my own designs. I have made blankets, baby clothes, barbie clothes and accessories, bags, purses, hats, scarves, slippers and amigurumis but I can not figure out how to design my own things I can't figure out how to make the yarn do what I want it to do. For instance I want to make rugrats dolls from a cartoon that was popular in the 90s I see patterns for them and I think how do you get to the point to make the yarn shape the heads that way. Any suggestions so I can figure this out would be much apperciated. Thanks Kim, granny of 7

I want to make the boy's cardigan but my little grandson is just barely fitting in size 18 months. Do you think if I used a one sized smaller hook it would bring the size down a bit from the 2T-3T size? He is actually 18 months but is tiny for his age. Why, I don't know as his Mom is 5'8" and Dad is somewhere around 6'2"

Couldn't believe I could take my knitting in a plane! I expected the needles to be classed as weapons but no it was fine to take them on board and knit whilst in the sky.

Hi, my name is Catherine and I was looking on Facebook to pass time and try a read. I had a stroke around Christmas and it has left me unable to read above 4th grader. I've been crocheting since I was 13....over 40 decades. I came across ur egg apron and my mum fell in love with the apron. She has asked me to try making it. Since I've lost so much memory I feel I would need a pattern. Can you please send me the pattern or a link to the pattern? Once I'm done I will gladly credit you as the pattern designer. My email address ic [email protected] Please help me and let me know if there is a fee. Thank you so much. Catherine

I've been on your blog page almost all day long, and I must say that I've so enjoyed it! Everything from the crochet patterns to the recipes shared by you and your husband. I admire that you both share some interest and work together on them. I read that you found crocheting better than therapy also. I share that belief with you as a chronic pain suffer. I find that whether I'm looking and downloading pattern, or I'm crocheting, that it takes the mind off of physical pain. One could say it's relaxing. I really have to tell you that I love your profile photo here on your blog page! I think it's one of the greatest gifts when we can find humor in ourselves and enjoy it with others. Sometimes we just need to sit back, relax, and enjoy laughter. Good for the soul! Thank you so very much for your time and efforts here, and much prayers for family and especially Caden! God bless you all!

Ashlea, I used your pattern for the Hair Towel with a Twist, and made them for my girls (daughter and 2 daughters-in-law) as part of their "Spa Box" gift for Christmas. I made them wash clothes, face scrubbies, and included soaps, lotions, and shower gels from Bed, Bath, & Beyond, along with a manicure set, lighted mirror, and lighted tweezers. They absolutely loved the box, but especially the hair towels. I gave each 4. They were so easy to make, and I really loved that pattern! Thank you so much for sharing that with us!

Thank you for sharing your lovely hat. Two of my granddaughters really loved it. Now I must hurry & make one for each of them. I am 73 & been crocheting for many years and glad to say my work is appreciated by many "grand babies" even though mot of them are grown. They know if they see something they like, all they have to do is tell Nana they like it. I will do may best to make them happy with another "project". Elizabeth Gibson Jessen

I also purchased the dragon glove pattern today, but there was no prompt to download and the pattern was not sent in my email. However, I did receive my receipt by email.

Hi Cherry! I believe you can pay with a check through PayPal. I've not done it, but I've received some payments that way. Do you have a paypal account set up? If not, we can figure something out. Thank you!

Hello Diana, I am so sorry but we felt the need to remove this pattern. I do have tutorials for the scarf itself, and there are similar patterns for the eyes on Pinterest, but I am uncomfortable sharing them here. Thank you for understanding!
