Have you ever tried to restrict your spending, or cut yourself off completely? Are you on the irresponsible side when it comes to money? DO NOT beat yourself up! Lots of people struggle with impulse buys. If you need a jump start to help keep your hands off your credit or debit card, or to stop spending money, let us help you get going! 😀
Creating a NO Spend Plan
We have annual “shopping freezes” to help show you HOW this is possible! Check out my most recent Shopping Freeze Final Totals – $30.17 for the entire month of February 2016. I’ll take it!
Creating a no-spend plan is a great way to start restricting yourself to only buying WHAT YOU NEED and being aware of where your money is going! This is a great way to start a healthy habit with your money!
Get a plan!
To effectively survive any sort of no spend month, week, or even day, you must have a plan. A plan that is realistic and that you can stick to. If you want to start by having a no spend day on coffee, great! Start small, work yourself up, possibly to a no spend period on groceries, such as my freeze listed above, or clothing, or eating out. Try to trim some of the unnecessary, extra expenses, and soon it won’t feel right to throw money on the things you are freely purchasing now.
If you usually eat out at lunch everyday, try packing a lunch. Have a NO SPEND lunch plan! Again, do not overwhelm yourself, or you’ll feel defeated before you get going. Tell your friends and family, so that they are aware and don’t curve you into spending!
Think about this…that $6 morning coffee stop at a famous coffee shop… is $30 a week, over $100 a month, or $1500+ a year! That’s a VACATION! (I like vacations, what can I say? 😛 ) Could you give up coffee for sandy beaches?! 🙂
From doing my own personal shopping freezes, I can tell you the biggest challenge is looking at the bigger picture and figuring out what I can do with what I have. Making my dollar stretch further and utilizing what I have on hand to get the job done. This takes some creativity and planning!
Instead of date night, or dinner out with friends each weekend, think LOW COST! Stay in, rent a movie, have a potluck dinner! Cut the gym membership, walk to a local park, high school track, or borrow/rent workout DVDS to do at home! The library can be a great resource!
Meal plan the HECK out of your week! Having a plan again, is KEY! Sit down, take inventory of what is in your pantry/freezer and start from there! Need help with inventory? We’ve got you covered. 😉
The Sweet Success!
When you end the NO SPEND week or month, or heck, even day, sit back and look at your progress! This is important! Look at what a few minor changes can do! This NOT time to get crazy with the extra money, no “rewards” for a job well done – okay maybe you earned that coffee. 😉
This is the time to use this extra money for savings, pay off debt, or pay off a bill that’s been hanging over your head.
