Are you looking for the perfect thing to gift the father figures in your life? This year for Father’s Day we are really going to WOW them! Grab your hook and let’s crochet a handsome reversible scarf for men using this free crochet pattern.

Men’s Reversible Scarf

This reversible scarf has such great depth and dimension. The fabric is super squishy and the way these stitches are worked means that this scarf is completely reversible. A great feature for something that will not always lay flat.

This new men’s scarf pattern uses post stitches and here is a full tutorial (including video) if you’ve never made them before. These stitches are also great for edgings and borders on all kinds of cardigans and blankets, so this would be a great opportunity to practice if that is the case!

Look at the depth and dimension and the texture… I just love it! We are using Gloss DK yarn for this project. It is a size 3 (DK) weight yarn in the “Hawk” colorway. You’ll need approximately 855 yards, or 7 balls.

If you are stash busting, there are many options… you could use virtually any size 3/DK yarn, or even a worsted weight yarn if you’ve got the perfect color. The size may be slightly larger than intended, but that is perfectly okay!

If you would like a full tutorial for this particular stitch – I have that too! We used this stitch for a cloth in my 2020 Cloth Series, and you can find that tutorial here.

  1. I need some help please on the men’s reversible scarf. On row 1 are there 32 dc in total, so 31 after the first dc in the 3rd chain from the hook? If so, how do you get 32 on Row 2? And I have tried row 3 three times, with 32 in Row 1 and 32 in Row 2. Row three just doesn’t work out. There are always two stitches left instead on one. I love the scarf but I am so confused.
    1. Hi Barbara! Row 1 will have 31 dcs, plus the ch-2 that does not count. Row 2 has an increase of 1 st at the very end of the row...your last bpdc should be done around the last dc of row below and you will be putting that last hdc into the same stitch you just bpdc'd around. There is written and video tutorial for this stitch pattern...if you haven't seen it yet, it can be found here: https://hearthookhome.com/diagonal-stripes-crochet-stitch-tutorial/
  2. Thanks for a beautiful pattern. Is the Gauge: 9.5 sts in 4” width correct for a DK yarn nd 5.5mm hook ? Is a "sts" one dc? I've tried a swatch several time with larger hooks and a heavier weight yarn and this seems off. Thanks for your help.
    1. Hi Kayla! Thank you for pointing this out! I don't know how or why I got that so wrong here. The post has been updated with the correct gauge width of 16 sts in 4". I am so sorry for the trouble!
