Slow Cooker Ham & Beans
Slow cooker Ham & Beans is the perfect {easy} recipe for a rainy day or a comfort food day. Bake some Honey Jalapeño Cornbread to soak up the delicious juices. Let’s dig in!
Ingredients:
- Roughly 3 lbs. of Ham (I used approx. 1/3 of a 9 1/2 lb. Smoked Bone-In Ham)
- 16 oz. Bag of Dry Great Northern or Cannellini Beans (rinsed and then soaked overnight) or 3 15.5 oz. cans (drained).
- (1) 32 oz. Carton of Chicken Broth
- 2 Cups Water
- 2 Cubes of Chicken Bouillon or a TBL of Ham or Chicken Better than Bouillon Paste
- 1 Large Onion, Diced
- 1 Large Jalapeno, Diced (remove seeds if you’re sensitive to spice)
- 2 Bay Leaves
- 1 TBL Minced Garlic
- 1 TBL Honey
- 1 TSP Parsley Flakes
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Here’s what you’ll do:
Take your smoked ham, cut it into a bunch of good sized cubes, and throw it into the Crock-Pot. I found a big 9 1/2 lb. bone-in smoked ham at my local supermarket for 99¢ a lb., separated it into roughly 3 equal parts, and used one of those and saved the other two thirds for breakfast ham and sandwich meat.
Then take a 16 oz. bag of Great Northern or Cannellini Beans (rinsed and soaked overnight) and add it to the Crock-Pot along with the remaining ingredients. If you decide to use canned beans you’ll want to wait and add those about an hour before everything else is done. Turn your Crock-Pot to low and cook for roughly 8-10 hours or until the beans become nice and soft.
Wanna save this for later?
Then when you’re ready to eat just serve it up. Did I mention this pairs perfectly with my Honey Jalapeño Cornbread recipe?
Doesn’t get much easier than that. Enjoy!
