Feeling fabulous in fur? This Twisted Fur Ear Warmer and Cowl set is the perfect fur item to accessorize this winter and is sure to keep you toasty warm!

Fur Crochet Cowl & Ear Warmer

The wind in Kansas can be downright disrespectful. Pair that bone-chilling wind with cold winter temperatures and you have no choice but to bundle up before leaving the house. If you have just two skeins of Fable Fur, you can make this super cute Faux Fur Cowl & Ear Warmer set!

If you’ve never worked with fur yarn before, you might take a peek at this post for tips for working with fur yarn before getting started.

The lighter fur colorway is “Kuma” and the darker colorway is called “Lapin”. I love them both! Each skein has 71 yards of fur, so you’ll need one and a half for the cowl. Use the rest of the second skein to whip up the ear warmer. These are so fast to crochet its almost ridiculous.

Materials:

Knit Picks Fable Fur (Super Bulky, #6)
-approx. 100 yards for cowl
-approx. 36 yards for ear warmer

Crochet hook in size L/8mm

Gauge:

7 sts x 5.5 rows = 4″ square

Pattern Notes:

Ch-1 at beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.

Pattern written in US terms.

It may be easier to crochet by feel rather than by sight.

Count your stitches each row as you crochet them. It helps to make sure you stay on track.

Foundation Single Crochet – (Fsc) tutorial.

Foundation Half Double Crochet – (Fhdc) tutorial.

In row 2, crochet around the beginning yarn tail to avoid having to weave it in later.

Cowl Dimensions: approx. 8” x 28” (before seaming)

Ear Warmer Dimensions: approx. 21″ x 4″ (before seaming)

Cowl Pattern:

Row 1: Fhdc-16 (alternately you could Ch-17, Hdc in 2nd chain from hook and in each ch across.) (16)

Rows 2-40 : Ch-1, turn, hdc in each to end. (16)

Lay rectangle flat and twist the rectangle one time as pictured.

Position the two ends together and loosely sl st the two ends together. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

For the ear warmer pattern we are going with a tighter stitch, the single crochet. This is sure to keep the wind from bothering sensitive ears.

Ear Warmer Pattern:

Row 1: Fsc-44 (alternately you could Ch-45, sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each to end) (44)
*should be ~21“ long.

Rows 2 – 8: Ch-1, turn, sc in each st to end. (44)

Fasten off leaving a long enough tail for sewing ends together. Sew the twisted ear warmer together, as demonstrated in this post.

Hi there, why do you twist the rectangle once before you sew ends. Thank you.

Hi Lenora! I twist mine because I like the way it looks and lays. You don't have to twist it if you don't want...it's purely your preference. Hope this helps!
