When I spotted this new Hygge Fur yarn from Red Heart, I knew it had to be a blanket. This faux fur throw is perfect for cuddling up on the couch. Crochet one up with this free crochet pattern!

Faux Fur Throw Crochet Pattern
This faux fur throw pattern is remarkably simple to crochet. Because this is a furry yarn, there is a bit of a learning curve, but nothing that the novice can’t conquer! In fact, this blanket may be the easiest blanket I have ever designed. For this entire pattern we use just one stitch, and an easy one at that: the half double crochet.

This throw blanket has a decent amount of weight to it, but it is the softest, most luxurious blanket ever. It drapes beautifully, and is fun to work with as the faux fur glides through your fingers and onto your hook. It is almost cool to the touch.

Pattern Notes:
With this yarn, I find it helps if you keep your tension a bit on the loose side.
Feel for the stitches instead of looking for them. (great for practicing speed and blind crocheting!)
It helps if you count stitches every few rows. Note that you can not count your stitches after the fact when crocheting with this yarn; it is simply too fuzzy to see. Counting for the duration of one row every few rows helps to ensure that you are not losing or gaining stitches. If you need to sneak another stitch in, or remove one, no one will ever know. Not even you. 😉
My son has attempted to confiscate this new faux fur throw for his own, but I’m not giving in!

Gauge:
Wanna save this for later?
9 hdc sts x 9 hdc rows = 4″ square
Gauge is hard to measure with this yarn. I personally thought that the throw ended up a bit narrow, so I added border rows (as instructed below) until I ran out of yarn. Easy peasy, and a great use for ALL of the yarn!
If you need help reading a crochet pattern, make sure you head over here and check out this detailed post.
Finished Dimensions:
Approx. 48″ x 60″
Pattern:
Row 1: Ch-121, hdc in 2nd chain from hook an in each to end. (120)
Rows 2 – 135: Ch-1, turn, hdc in each st to end. (120)

Border:
A border is absolutely not necessary with this pattern, but then again… why not use up the rest of the yarn? It will also help clean up any imperfections from dropping/adding stitches throughout the pattern itself.
Row 1: Ch-1, turn to work up row ends, hdc in each row end/stitch around entire blanket, placing 3hdc in each corner.
Continue adding rows around the outside of the blanket, stopping at ANY corner when you’ve reached the point that you don’t have enough yarn to complete another turn. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

That is it! This blanket is the easiest, most professional looking blanket I’ve made in a long time. I love the feel of the fabric and the weight of it, and the colors are simply perfection! Which color will you use for your Faux Fur Throw?

Hi! This pattern looks beautiful. Would it be possible to make with a larger hook?
I love your patterns. I have made a few from time to time. you say the patterns are free, but there is no where on the post that you can print the pattern. maybe i am missing it but i have never found a way to get the pattern to any of your projects for free. i have to go to raverly and pay for them. maybe you can help me with this problem. i just received my yarn to start my Lori poncho. I am excited to get started.
Hi Christina! My free patterns are offered here on the blog website only. Printable ad-free versions, I do have a small fee for.
At Yarnspirations I see skeins of Red Heart Hygge yarn, it does not specify fur yarn. Is there a difference? I see you pictured balls of yarn, not skeins. I just don’t want to order the wrong type for the blanket.
Hi Renee! Unfortunately, it looks like Hygge Fur yarn has been discontinued. Here is a link to YarnSub’s suggested substitutions: https://yarnsub.com/yarns/red_heart/hygge_fur
I can’t wait to start this project. My yarn came yesterday, but I was at work. I plan on beginning it today! It’ll be something to work on all weekend, maybe. ☺️ I already know who it’s going to for Christmas and I am excited! Thank you for this pattern.
Awesome! I hope you love the pattern!
Just bought Lion Brand faux fur yarn and Red Heart Hygge faux fur yarn. The Lion Brand is in Chinchilla and the Red Heart is as close to black as I could get.
I plan on making the body in the Chinchilla and the border in the black for my soon-to-be daughter-in-law. I’ll post my reaction to the result and, if I remember, I’ll post hers as well.
If you are having trouble finding the stitches in each row to double crochet in, try your stitches into the spaces between stitches! Won’t that work as well, Ashlea?
Absolutely!
Hello, I want to crochet this blanket but I have a question for you. I have a variegated faux fur yarn with different shades of browns/tans. My thought is to do most of the blanket in a solid tan and make the variegated the border. What are your thoughts on this?
Thank you. 🙂
I think that would look nice!
Hi,
Can you please tell me the difference between RED HEART Hygge fur yarn that is recommended for this pattern and LION BRAND Go For Faux thick and quick yarn?
Can the Lion Brand be substituted for the Red Heart Hygge?
Thanks
Can hygge fur yarn be a substitute yarn for this pattern? And can any other yarns be used instead of faux fur yarn?
Hi i would like to know, where you Buy your Wool, go for fur, thanks ,i love that blanket
Hi Ginette! Hygge Fur yarn can be found at Joanne, or online at yarnspirations.com or on amazon.
This there a friendly print version of this pattern? Faux Fur Throw.
I am very new at crochet. I don’t understand what this means in your instructions:
Row 1: Ch-121, ………”an in each to end.” (120)
Hi Maria! Welcome to crochet! So, to start off on row 1, you will make 121 chains, then half double crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook and then you will put a half double crochet into each of the remaining chains. When you get to the end of the row you should have 120 total half double crochets. I hope this helps!
Thank you! This helps tremendously. I never would have guessed all of this information with my limited knowledge.
This looks beautiful! I saw this pattern after I purchase the yarn for another project, and didn’t purchase enough. I will be purchasing more yarn for this project. I am making the throw in Sienna. Thank you for sharing this
Im making a queen size blanket i need how many skeins with this yarn what sizes is this
Hi Tanya! If you made a 90×90 queen sized blanket, you would need around 23 7oz balls (5850 yds) of the Hygge Fur yarn. Hope this helps!
Is there a printable copy of this pattern?
Thanks!!
Hello! Really want to make this pattern but wondering how I could make it larger, like 6 feet by 5 feet? Thanks!
Hi Nicole! You would just need to add about 27 to your starting chain and add around 27 more rows (or until your desired length is reached). Hope this helps!
Hi! Just bought everything to make this blanket and I’m beyond excited! I’ve been working on my gauge swatch and no matter what I try I’m not coming close to 4” … it’s more like 2×2. I even tried going up 2 hook sizes. Where am I messing up here? I’m working loosely and doing my best to see/feel into each stitch. Thanks for any help you can offer … I am dying to make this for my new sofa, it’ll be perfect!
Just finished this blanket! Love!
Have you washed this yet? And if so, how did it wash? I see it is gentle and lay flat. Ugh♀️
But so worth it because it is dreamy
Thank you for this great idea. The store I went to only had four balls of each color so I bought four of one color and four of another. I’m hoping the stripped effect will look great. I will send a picture when I’m done. I also want to thank you for your site. It’s Amazing.
Did you find any shedding or noodling with this yarn? That seems to be a problem with the faux furs.
I would love to have the pattern. I love the look if the blanket.
Hi Aletta! The pattern is written up in this post! =)
I do not see what size needle to use or the amount of yarn needed.
Hi Nancy! This pattern uses about 8 balls (2000 yards) of the Hygge Fur Yarn and a K/6.5 mm hook.
I love this! Thank you for the pattern. What colour did you use?
Hi Theresa! That is the color Sand Castle =)
GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS Yarn!!!
Want to surprise my Hubby with a Smily grey one for his Truck. He’s a long haul Truck Driver.
This yarn looks quite similar to the Yarn Bee Fur-Ever Style I just got on clearance at Hobby Lobby!!! I think I’m gonna try it! Thank you so much!!!
