Ninja turtles are all the rage. I know both of my boys wish they could be a ninja turtle. If you too have a little ninja turtle fan, whip up one of these beanies with masks. This is a quick pattern, and even if you are new to crochet it shouldn’t be too difficult. You only need to know how to single crochet and double crochet, which we have in our video tutorials!

*Note that you may use any  beanie pattern you wish. This specific beanie pattern is intended to be large, it fits my pre-teen fine and is snug on me. Not intended to be a hat worn for warmth, but as a costume hat for play. Enjoy!

  1. Hi! Thanks for this adorable pattern! Does the chain 2 at the beginning of the round count as your first dbl crochet? Thanks, Heather
  2. Thanks for the free tmnt hat pattern. I was wondering if you would mind if i left the mask off and try to adjust to make different sizes. I wanted a beanie that was easy to make but can be resized and i can add a stripe or shells to bottom and add a applaque to it. I'm making hats for the cancer ward. but need so many different sizes.
  3. Thank you so much for sharing the pattern - and also for the video. I only learnt to crochet 6 weeks ago but managed to make this for my 6 year old who loves it!
  4. My twin grandkids loved their MNT hats!! They ran around playing with them until they collapsed! Thank you so much for sharing your pattern. These hats brought my family lots of laughs and joy.

  6. Love this hat!!! If making it in a smaller or larger size, how do I figure out how many to chain and how many to attach to the hat? And many chains and stiches would I make the eye holes? My 30 year old brother and his newborn baby wear very different sizes..lol. HELP!!

  8. What a great pattern! Thanks for sharing! I am working on my own mask/beanie pattern and have been playing around with different eye holes, and I love yours!!! Would you mind if I link to your pattern during this step of my “girly beanie with roll up mask” pattern? Thank you!
  9. If you make the hat smaller could you explain how you would then make the mask smaller. I am new to crochet and confused thanks Erin
    1. Hi Erin! I didn't change anything on the mask when making a smaller size and it worked fine. Hope that helps!
  10. I wanted to make this for a small child, made the beanie, now I'm wondering do I need to make mask smaller too but new to crocheting and not sure how exactly to do that. My beanie is only 60 stitches around not 72.
  11. Hi. In the PDF download, You indicate there are a total of 150 stitches on the mask rows but when I add up your stitches it only totals to 130. What am I missing?
        1. Yes. I watched video. It should be 130 on PDF. Also when you skip 2 in middle of mask the PDF says to sc 2. I followed the video. :). Thanks for the pattern! I love it and will make a bunch for the Magic Yarn Project.
          1. Ahhhh okay! It's been so long since I wrote this pattern I wasn't sure - ha! - BUT I was thinking that maybe the strap wasn't long enough on the first draft so I make it longer for the pattern.
