Oh how I love summer, warm weather and a good crochet star pattern. This pattern for a crocheted star is super easy, it works up super quickly and is a great star applique for crocheted blankets, vests and more!
How to Make a Crochet Star
For this crocheted star we are creating a base circle then adding five points. Each point consists of four stitches: the chain, the single crochet, half double crochet and the double crochet. If you would like to watch the crochet star video tutorial, see below.
Unfamiliar with the Magic Circle for crocheting in the round? I highly encourage you to try this magic circle tutorial. It is much easier than it looks and your stars will turn out more uniform.
Crocheted star dimensions: 2.5″ across using cotton yarn with G crochet hook. If you’d like your star a bit larger use an H crochet hook.
Pattern:
Round 1: Magic circle. Ch-1, 10sc in circle, join with sl st to top of first sc (10 scs)
Round 2: Ch-1, sc in same st as join, 2sc in next * sc in next, 2sc in next * repeat between * * around. Join to top of first sc with sl st. Do not fasten off (15 scs)
Star points:
Ch-4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next, dc in next. Point made (or taken? haha). Sk three sts on circle and sl st to next.
Repeat four times. Join last with sl st to base of first point, weave in end from magic circle beginning using your tapestry needle.
Wasn’t that easy peasy?! These stars work great as appliques as well. Like in my patriotic crocheted vest pattern that is currently being tested by my testers! You are going to LOVE it!
