This new Hydrangea Blossom Afghan Square is so fun to make. I love the texture and at 12″ square these are the perfect size to sew many together to make a gorgeous afghan or crochet two of them in order to make a pillow cover. In fact, this is a participating square in the annual Moogly 2020 Afghan CAL!

Were I to crochet an entire afghan using this square pattern, I think I would switch out the color of the “blossom” on each one so that I’d end up with a gorgeous “garden” of Hydrangeas. ♥

  1. Love this pattern it's working up nicely. Be sure to crochet loosely. My first try was too tight and therefore would not lay flat. Second square is perfect. I'm using my discontinued Lion Basic Stitch High Valley for the boarder and coordinating basic stitch baby pink, mint and white for the blossoms.
  2. I am finishing my first square. I love the pattern but ... my blossom does not lay flat. I've counted all the stitches, its correct. Good tension and recommended size needle and am using worsted weight yarn. What am I doing wrong if it's to lay flat?
  3. Just adore this square pattern! May I ask, what are you using as charms or markers to count (mark) your stitches? (Corner stitches) Thank you! Karen
    1. Hi Karen! Sometimes I usually find my charms in the jewelry making section of craft stores and use those to make my stitch markers. I have a post about how I make them which can be found here: https://hearthookhome.com/make-stitch-markers/
