We just learned how to make the Tunisian Honeycomb crochet stitch in my newest video, so let’s put that tutorial to use with a fun, fast, and free small face cloth crochet pattern!

Face Cloth Crochet Pattern Featuring Tunisian Honeycomb stitch

The Bee’s Knees Face Cloth

This face cloth is small, only about 5″ wide and 5″ tall. But that’s the perfect size to lather up a bit of face soap and cleanse your skin and clean behind your ears! We are using the Tunisian Honeycomb stitch because, well, we just learned it and we want to perfect our skillz (with a “z”) while making something USEFUL in the process. I’m thinking these would be a great addition to a spa gift basket!

Materials:

Soft Cotton yarn (I used I Love this Cotton!)
-approx. 19 yards
Tunisian crochet hook in size H/5mm

Notes:

This pattern uses the Tunisian Honeycomb Stitch (THS) which alternates Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS) with Tunisian Purl Stitch (TPS). Find a video tutorial for the Tunisian Honeycomb here.

Pattern:

Row 1: Ch-20, TSS in back bar of 2nd ch and each ch to end. Ch-1, * yarn over, pull through two loops. * repeat between * * to end.

Row 2: TSS in first bar, TPS in next. Alternate TSS and TPS to end. Go through both sides of “V” on last stitch from previous row. Chain-1, * yarn over, pull through two loops. * repeat between * * to end.

Row 3: TPS in first, TSS in next. Alternate TPS and TSS to end. Go through both sides of last stitch from previous row. Chain-1, * yarn over, pull through two loops. * repeat between * * to end.

Repeat rows 2 & 3 to 17 rows, or until piece is square.

Slip stitch across last row. Do not fasten off, instead start border.

Border:

Sc in each row end/stitch around entire face cloth, placing two single crochets in each corner.

Fasten off using Invisible Join and you.are.done!

If this isn’t a great way to learn a new stitch, I don’t know what is! Throw a set of these in a spa gift basket for a teenager’s birthday gift, or a teacher appreciation gift, or this may even be a nice addition to a baby shower gift. Hmmm, small bath time wash cloth for baby?

Hi, I love this pattern! Thank you for teaching me this cool new stitch pattern. I made one myself, but I had a bit of difficulty with the border. The right edge didn't have clear stitch spaces for me to work with. Do I just ...throw those stitches anywhere? I worry that would make the sides uneven.

Hi Stephanie! I would just make sure that each side has the same number of border stitches and you should be fine. Hope this helps!

Please help me troubleshoot. I love love this Tunisian honeycomb stitch so I made your Bee’s Knees face cloth- and at the end wanted to cry- the cloth had a horrible stretched out right corner.. it threw the whole cloth out of square.. I love this stitch and want to try again and make a set of these cloths for my mom—but how do I ensure my beautiful honeycomb cloths come out square and professional looking? Please help Hannah
