I love to decorate my home with useful items that I have made with my own two hands. Why buy trivets when you can make them at home? These leaf shaped trivets are the perfect thing to bring your love of crafting into your space as a usable item. Grab your hook and let’s make a set of Tunisian Leaf Trivets using this free crochet pattern!

Leaf Trivet Crochet Patterns
Available in two sizes, these leaf trivets are super chic and will take the style in your kitchen up as well as the functionality. Make one of the larger leaf trivets to use with your 9″ x 13″ baking dishes or cookie sheets, and use the smaller leaf pattern to make a normal size trivet to use with a sauce pan etc. Note that these are not intended to protect your fingers! Trivets are to be used as a barrier against the hot baking dish or pan and the countertop or table.

These trivets are made using Herrschners Cottage Cotton, a 60% cotton/40% acrylic blend that is worsted weight. I made one tester square pad using the Tunisian Simple Stitch to check for durability when used with the heat of a dish straight out of the oven. It did great and has continued to work beautifully!

Now I’ve taken the Tunisian Simple Stitch and added some increases and decreases that create a cute little leaf. Perfect! Let’s make a set, shall we?

For this pattern we are using one ball of the Cottage Cotton, but we are making it triple stranded. In order to do this I am doing what is called “chain plying” where I use my electric yarn winder from Caydo to chain ply as you see in this chain ply tutorial. If you’re not prepared to chain ply, you can alternately hold three strands of worsted weight cotton together OR use a heavier weight cotton such as Cushy Cotton. The overall size may be affected but it should be negligible.
One ball of Cottage Cotton will make both the large leaf trivet AND the small trivet. Awesome!

Other great yarns would be anything majority cotton. You could use the Village Craft Cotton, Dishie from WeCrochet, Lily Sugar’n Cream, or Premier Home Cotton.

Ready? Let’s make some cute crocheted leaf trivets! 🍂
