Double Diamond Mesh Crochet Tutorial
Whether you’ve been crocheting for a few weeks or a few decades, this stitch is a breeze to make. It uses just two of the most basic stitches: chains, single crochets, and a few half double crochets. We’ll combine them in a way that creates a breathable, lightweight fabric perfect for all kinds of things.
About the Double Diamond Mesh Stitch:
If you are working this stitch in flat rows back and forth, you’ll want to start with a multiple of 6, plus 2 for the beginning chain. If you are working this pattern in the round you will want a multiple of 6 before joining to start your first round.
This stitch is worked in a four-row repeat, meaning that once the pattern is established, you will repeat the same four rows in order until the piece is as tall as needed.

Let’s make a small sample:
For this sample I am starting with a chain-20. (6 x 3 = 18 + 2 = 20) Follow along with the video tutorial below for additional tips.
Row 1: Ch-20, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in the next ch, * ch-5, sk-3 chs, sc in each of next 3 chs * repeat between * * one more time, ch-5, sk-3 chs, sc in each of final 2 chs. (3 ch-sps)
Row 2: Ch-1, turn, sc in first st, * sk-next st, ch-3, sc around ch-sp, ch-3, sk-next st, sc in next sc, * repeat between * * to end.
Row 3: Ch-1, turn, hdc in first st, ch-2, sc around ch-sp, sc in next sc, sc around ch-sp, * ch-5, sk-next st, sc around next ch-sp, sc in next sc, sc around ch-sp * repeat between * * one more time, ch-2, hdc in final st.
Row 4: Ch-1, turn, sc in first st, ch-3, sk-next st, sc in next sc, sk-next st, * ch-3, sc around ch-sp, ch-3, sk-next st, sc in next sc, sk-next st * repeat between * * one more time, ch-3, sc in final st.
Wanna save this for later?
Row 5: Ch-1, turn, sc in first st, sc around ch-sp, ch-5 * sk-next st, sc around next ch-sp, sc in next sc, sc around ch-sp, ch-5 * repeat between * * one more time, sk-next st, sc around ch-sp, sc in final st.
Rows 6 through 13: repeat rows 2 – 5 in order
Once you get those last four rows down you’ll be flying through those rows!
I prefer to end my pieces worked using the Double Diamond Mesh stitch on a row that has the ch-3s instead of the ch-5s, so either a row 2 or a row 4. You can, of course, play around with whatever looks best in the project you are making.
