Outdoor Table Mat Crochet Pattern

It is simply unbelievable to me that we are halfway through our 2021 Household Crochet Series. Where do the weeks and months go?! Yet, here we are ready to crochet another useful item for the home – or for the patio!

Keeping with our theme of household crochet, this time we’re taking things out of doors. If you’ve got a patio table, or other outdoor seating area, this outdoor table mat pattern is the perfect thing to crochet for sprucing up the table and dining al fresco.

For this outdoor placemat crochet pattern I wanted to make sure that we used materials that would hold up to wear. I didn’t necessarily want to use cotton yarn – but you could if you want to! Especially if you plan to use these inside or under a planter as I have or as a decorative top to a side table, etc.

To test this theory, I whipped a couple up using both Dishie and raffia. Dishie is my favorite 100% cotton yarn. It did come out slightly smaller than the ones worked with raffia. Dimensions for each are listed below!

If you choose to use up some raffia, crocheting with it does take a bit to get used to. I’ve found that if I don’t focus so much on my tension it helps to keep things laying nice and flat, and without ripping the material.

  1. Thank you for letting me know! I love bright colors like that. I will look around and see what I can find. The table mats and the plant hangers are great! I enjoy your all of your patterns and your Facebook page. Thanks again!
  2. I love your ideas and how easy they are to duplicate! I was wondering where you purchased the variegated raffi. Is it rayon or paper? Thanks!
    1. Hi Joyce! I purchased that raffia from Premier yarns, but unfortunately they have discontinued it. It's content is cellulose rayon.
  3. This is great. I have some antique doilies I use regularly but would love to make a few of my own! Now I can and it’s a really simple pattern.
