Top 13 Ways to SAVE at Lowe’s Home Improvement

Looking for ways to save money at Lowe’s? Yeah, let’s make that a thing. 😀 There are actually multiple ways to go about saving money at Lowe’s by utilizing coupons, price matching, military discounts, shopping clearance, buying {and using} gift cards, online shopping and more. Keep these tips in mind next time you’re looking to make a purchase, particularly a large one!

Purchase Gift Cards

One of my very favorite ways to save at Lowe’s – or any major retailer? By using gift cards I purchase at my local grocery store. I shop at Dillons {Kroger affiliate} and they always offer 2X the value of the gift card purchase amount in fuel points. If I know I’m headed to Lowe’s to buy $100 worth of plants and soil etc anyway, I’ll stop by the grocery store on my way and pick up a $100 gift card – that I would have spent here or there – and I get 200 fuel points ($100 gift card value X 2)! That is a 20¢ savings per gallon of gas earned that I would have spent no matter what.

Shop through Rakuten

Did you know that you can order online from Lowe’s and have your purchase ready usually within 20 minutes? Rakuten offers cash back for shopping online, anywhere from 1.5% to 10% during a special promotion.

Always check with them – just make sure to select in-store pickup and you’ll earn cash back AND you’ll avoid shipping charges!

Check for Savings Before You Go

Making a large purchase? Always be sure to check the “savings” tab on the Lowe’s webpage before heading out. One item may be an additional 10% off whereas a similar item may not be on sale at all. Check while you’re still at home and you can measure to see if the new refrigerator or oven will fit in your space, or how many square feet of that tile you’ll need etc.

Search for Current Rebates

Looking to purchase a large or higher priced item? One of the best ways to save BIG on appliances is by actually redeeming mail in rebates. I know, they can be a pain, but for $50 – $200? Totally. They make it easy for you too. It should print out on your receipt with all of the info you need to get going – online even!

Bonus: mail in rebates almost always work on top of any in-store discounts you receive. Search for rebates, right on Lowe’s.com.

Use a Credit Card with Points

As many of you know, Paul and I only use our credit cards for everyday purchases. We pay them off every single month. Paying them off not only helps boost your credit score, but it also racks up some rewards points if you use a rewards credit card. Definitely check yours for current rewards programs if you are unsure – and if your card offers no rewards at all – you may consider getting a new one! Make to research all aspects of a new card before signing.

Six Reasons You Should *EXCLUSIVELY* Use Credit Cards

Check the Clearance Center

Did you know that you can haggle on floor models in the clearance center of your local Lowe’s store? Oh yes! Lowe’s employees may approve deeper discounts on floor models. Don’t be afraid to haggle! Is that handle broken? Ask for a discount!

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it when you're ready.

Check Competitor Sales

Always, always, always check for competitor sales when shopping at Lowe’s. If you know you’re about to spend a large amount of money – check Lowe’s competitors – such as Home Depot, Menards, Ace Hardware and Sears. If a competitor has an advertised price on the same product you’re looking into purchasing, Lowe’s will match that price. They’ll even give you an additional 10% for the trouble! What trouble? 😉 Home Depot matches as well!

Military discount

Are you active military? Or perhaps a veteran who receives VA benefits and has a valid VIC? To qualify for the everyday military discount, you must be currently serving in, or retired from, a branch of the military and have a valid military ID Card. A few exceptions:

On Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day, Lowe’s honors ALL veterans who served honorably and present a valid Form DD214 or other proof of service. Note that the military discount may not be combined with the Lowe’s Price Guarantee. Thank you for your service!

Buy Contractor Packs

Often times Lowe’s offers “contractor prices” if you buy in bulk. Pretty sure you’ll be using a lot of tile for that project? Check the contractor price! You don’t have to be a contractor to buy them, you just get a better deal buying in bulk.

Sign up for their credit card

You can earn 5% off of purchases or special financing on purchases of $299 or more with a Lowe’s credit card. The special financing is no interest if paid off in 6 months. New accounts also get 20% off their first purchase! With no annual fees and special cardholder events, you can potentially save a lot with their card.

Price Match (depends on your store!)

Lowe’s not only offers a Price Guarantee – your store MIGHT price match Amazon.com! If you find the identical item sold on Amazon for cheaper, print out the product page and take it in to your local Lowe’s. Head to customer service and they will take care of it! Note that this must be done in-store only, not online. You might call ahead after searching Amazon to make sure that your store does in fact price match. This is not stated in their official policy, but it is commonly known that they do.

Price matching does not apply to installation, to competitor’s closeout pricing, special orders, discontinued merchandise, clearance, liquidation, or damaged items.

Lowe’s Accepts Competitor Coupons

Not only does Lowe’s, but Home Depot and Menards accept competitor coupons as well. Work that to your favor! Have a 10% off to Home Depot? Take it to Lowe’s! Note that the manager has the ultimate say, but I have never been turned down myself. As long as the coupon is valid they should accept it.

One-Year Plant Guarantee

Did you kill that plant? Never fear, Lowe’s has a one-year plant guarantee. If your plants – including trees, perennials and shrubs don’t make it through the first year, they will provide you with a replacement. Just make sure to KEEP YOUR RECEIPT! Take the dead plant (ha!) and your receipt in to your local Lowe’s for a replacement.
