Wow! The Hand Warmer Beanie pattern has been such a hit! I’m so glad you love it! I have been asked to create an ear warmer pattern as well, so here we are. We have a Hand Warmer Ear Warmer crochet pattern! Ha!

Hand Warmer Ear Warmer

I decided to jazz this ear warmer up a bit by using the Mini Bean stitch. We will crochet a circle, then we will add pockets on either side for inserting your hand warmers, positioned just over the ears. This is such a fun, quick project, and a great way to learn the Mini Bean stitch, too!

Materials:Worsted Weight Yarn
Red Heart with Love in Mallard pictured
-approx. 83 yards
Crochet hook in size H/5mm
Hand warmers

Finished Dimensions:

Approx. 3″ wide and approx. 21.5″ around. (See head size chart here) If making for a smaller head, decrease the starting chain by multiples of two.

Gauge:

7 Mbs in 4″

It is important to check gauge with this pattern. If yours is much larger than mine, the ear warmer may be too large. Better to go a tad smaller than larger, imo.

Pattern Notes:

Pattern written using US terms.

The hand warmers are rectangles approximately 3.75″ wide and 2.25” tall.

Obligatory disclaimer: Before placing hand warmers in the finished ear warmer, make sure to read the instructions on the package. I can not find anything that hints at this idea being unsafe, but as with anything else, read the directions and follow their instructions and guidelines for correct use. If the product gets too warm, remove from warmer.

  1. I’m confused. I want to make a bunch of these for Xmas but I don’t know if I should be doing one additional chain after the closing chain for the bean after each bean is made? If so I not sure where to place the beans starting on the 2nd row. Thank you!
    1. Hi Barb! I have a tutorial for the mini bean stitch that should help...it can be found here: http://hearthookhome.com/crochet-mini-bean-stitch-elizabeth-stitch-tutorial/
      1. I saw the tutorial but when writing a pattern for it do u write it that the chain 1 to close the bean is part of the bean stitch and then u add another ch 1 for your pattern so basically u have 2 chain1 next to each other.
        1. The ch 1 to close the minibean is part of the stitch and is not written into the pattern. There is not an extra ch 1 between the mini beans in this pattern, so you should not have 2 chains next to each other.
  2. I need to bring to your attention that someone has put a comment to a porn site above on November 12, 2008 at 9:53 pm. could you remove that?!?
  3. Can you include the instructions on how to do the mini bean stitch? I would love to make this but I don't know how to do the mini bean.
