It has been ages since I crocheted something for the menfolk. The Swagger Sweater is changing that! Available in sizes from small to 3XL, this sweater pattern is sure to be the perfect crocheted garment for the men in your life. Or yourself, if that’s you! 😉
Swagger Sweater Crochet Pattern
Crocheting for men can sometimes be tricky. There simply aren’t as many crochet patterns for men as there are for women. The other men’s sweater I’ve designed, the Cozy Coed Cardigan, has been remarkably popular. That is a unisex pattern as is this one.
The Swagger Sweater came to be when my brother Forrest asked me to design a men’s sweater pattern and I could not be happier with the way this design turned out!
For this sweater we are using the Alternating Single Crochet Spike Stitch, which is remarkably easy and mindless to crochet. A great project for movie night!
My oldest is wearing the XL size and my youngest is wearing the size small. These are true to size – or so I am told. 😉
We are using Brava Worsted for this pattern. Of course, you could use other worsted weight yarns such as Big Twist Value yarn from Joann, Red Heart Super Saver, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, Bernat Value, or any other worsted weight yarn you fancy.
While you are working up this sweater you may feel that the fabric is too dense, which may lead you to assume that the sweater will be too stiff. I want you to know two things…
1.) I did this on purpose, and
2.) it’s going to be okay! 🙌
The first time you wash it, it will soften up to the perfect density for a sweater that will hold its shape well.
The washing makes a HUGE difference! My oldest complained that it was too stiff while trying it on, then after washing he admitted that I knew what I was doing. (I should have gotten that in writing, eh? 🤣)
If you’re still worried I suggest make the gauge swatch as listed in the pattern, then weave in the ends and throw it in your next load of laundry. The difference is almost unbelievable.
