The Nitty Gritty Scarf is simple to crochet and so stylish. A great gift or project for anyone, with a definite masculine vibe for the men in your life. Grab your hook and let’s get started!

Nitty Gritty Scarf

Nitty Gritty Scarf

The Nitty Gritty Scarf uses a modified Grit Stitch pattern. For this pattern we are placing two Half Double Crochets in every other stitch. This creates a lovely texture with such a simple stitch pattern.

This would be a great scarf to work up while watching a movie with the family, or listening to an audio book!

While I do think this crocheted scarf would work great for men, it truly is a unisex crochet pattern. I also think that if you went up a few hook sizes, the drape would be delicious for a lightweight shawl, especially if you paired it with a yarn that has a nice halo to it, like the Soft Boucle yarn from Rowan. 😍

For this pattern we are using the Caron Big Donut O’Go yarn, which is approximately 502 yards of goodness. If you would prefer to substitute for a different worsted weight yarn that would be perfectly fine!

Some other yarns that would work well in this instance would be the Brava Worsted, Wool of the Andes Tweed, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, Caron One Pound, Lion Brand Pound of Love, or Red Heart Super Saver.

  1. Hello and Thank you! I’m curious what makes it a “modified” grit stitch because when I look on YouTube for the grit stitch it’s exactly the same as this. So I’m curious what makes it “modified”? Sincerely, Jamie
    1. Hi Jamie! I call it modified since most of the grit stitch patterns I see use single crochet, and I used half double crochet for this.
