We’ve all heard about Ugly Christmas Sweaters, and boy have I seen some doozies… but have you seen an ugly Christmas beanie?! This Ugly Christmas Beanie is the perfect “ugly” accessory to wear to holiday parties this year.
Ugly Christmas Beanie
This beanie is adult size, and is intended to be, well… ugly. Made using just one skein of green worsted weight yarn and scraps of yellow worsted weight yarn, this fun and funny beanie is sure to bring a smile or a laugh this holiday season.
For this beanie we are using worsted weight yarn in your favorite shade of green. You will also need a small bit of yellow worsted weight yarn to make the star. I used a package of holiday themed sparkly pom poms and a hot glue gun for the “ornaments”.
You could use charms from the craft store for more realistic ornaments, but I think the sparkly brashness of the tinsel pom poms really lends an “ugly” factor that can’t be understated.
I never really thought I’d purposefully crochet something UGLY, but here we are and I am in love!
Also… is it just me or this photo giving off some serious Olan Mills vibes? I just need a vignette and it’d be game over. Hahaha!!

Points:
Ch-6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next, dc in next, Tr in next, Dtr in next, sk 2 sts on round 2 of the star and sl st to next st. Complete a total of 5 points. Join to base of first point made. Fasten off the first star and weave in all ends.
On second star do NOT fasten off. Line up the wrong sides of the stars and sc through both fabrics so that you have one opening along the bottom as pictured.
Using the yarn tail, attach the star to the top of the “tree”. Weave in all ends.
Use a hot glue gun to attach the “ornaments” as densely as you like. I used the entire package of (90) tinsel poms for mine.
I hope you love making this ugly Christmas beanie, and that you get lots of smiles if you wear it out and about during the holiday season. I can’t wait to see yours! Please share by tagging @HeartHookHome across all social media, or in the Heart Hook Home Crochet Community on Facebook.
