Webster the Elephant Bookmark Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Oh Webster, quite possibly my favorite of my NEW collection of amigurumi crochet bookmark patterns.  If you have an elephant lover in the house, you need a Webster too! Webster the elephant bookmark is simply adorable. Add a bow to the top of the head to make him more “girlie” or simply leave him as is. He’s adorable either way. 😉

Elephant Bookmark Crochet Pattern

Elephant Bookmark Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Remember that you want to use Invisible Decrease for the sc2tog (decreases).  It helps to create a prettier, smoother transition in amigurumi.

Elephant Bookmark Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Materials:

Size G (4mm) crochet hook
Stitch marker
Gray worsted weight yarn
Black yarn (just enough for tail)
Two buttons for eyes (or safety eyes if for a small child)
Upholstery needle
Polyfill (or extra yarn as stuffing)
Pipe cleaner

Gauge:

Unimportant

Notes:

*Work in a spiral, do NOT join at the end of each round
*Use your stitch marker to note the beginning stitch of each row
*Use Invisible Decrease for prettier sc2tog (see video tutorial)

Pattern:

Head:
Round 1: Magic circle. 8sc in circle. (8)
Round 2: 2sc in each st around (16)
Round 3: sc in each st around (16)
Round 4: *sc in next st, 2sc in next* repeat from * * around (24)
Round 5: sc in each st around (24)
Round 6: *sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next* repeat from * * around (32)
***if using saftey eyes, add after the 8th round***
Rounds 7 – 13: sc in each st around (32)
Round 14: *sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog* repeat from * * around (24)
Round 15: sc in each st around (24)
Round 16: *sc in next st, sc2tog* repeat from * * around (16)
***add stuffing and begin strap***
Squish the head closed and line up the remaining 16 sts. Crochet through the very first two, then the next two, then the next two etc to the end until you have a closed head with 8 stitches across.

Strap:
Rows 1 – 50 (or until strap is about 9” long): Ch-1, sc in each st across. (8)
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Trunk:
Round 1: Magic circle. 6sc in circle. (6)
Round 2: 2sc in each (12)
Rounds 3 – 14: sc in each st around (12)
Round 15: *sc in next st, 2sc in next* repeat from * * around (18)
Round 16: sc in each st around (18)
Round 17: *sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next* repeat from * * around (24)
Take a pipe cleaner and fold in half, insert it into the trunk and clip the ends. Place a tiny bit of stuffing inside to keep it from collapsing.

Ears (make two):
Round 1: Magic circle. 8sc in circle. (8)
Round 2: 2sc in each (16)
Round 3: sc in each st around (16)
Round 4: *sc in next st, 2sc in next* repeat from * * around (24)
Round 5: sc in each st around (24)
Round 6: *sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next* repeat from * * around (32)
Round 7: sc in each st around (32)
Round 8: *sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next* repeat from * * around (40)
Round 9 & 10: sc in each st around (40)

Elephant Ears Crochet Pattern

Tail:

Ch-5, sl st up chain. Tie two strands of black yarn in the end st, and fray the yarn using your needle to make a “hairy” tail.

Elephant Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Construction:

Lay ears flat, then fold down top side. Sew ears onto opposite sides of the head, leaving a part of the bottom hanging. Sew trunk onto the center of the face, toward the bottom. Add tail to the center of the bottom of bookmark.
