The Wild Berry Pullover is a roomy, squishy, gorgeous sweater that you are sure to reach for over and over again. This size inclusive pattern ranges from size XS through 4XL and is available as a free crochet pattern. This new staple item in your wardrobe is plush to wear and fun to make… so let’s make one! (Or five 😅)

Example of Wild Berry Pullover

Wild Berry Pullover

When designing the Wild Berry Pullover I wanted something a bit roomier than all of my other designs. This pullover has a few extra inches of positive ease around the bust, and a slightly deeper armhole depth than usual. This gives it that roomy, oversized sweatshirt feel. When you combine that with the bottom band being more fitted, you’ve got the perfect blend of comfort and style. The result is a gorgeous, drape-y, delicious sweater that you’ll never want to take off.

Example of Wild Berry Pullover

I’ve made four of these beauties so far. The first draft was the Brava Tweed version in the Goldenrod colorway. I love the flecks of tweed poking through. From that first draft I edited the neck opening to be a bit larger, as I do not like fabric too high up on my chest/neck.

The second version is the “Dove Heather” colorway of the huge Brava 500 skeins. This version was made exactly as you see in the pattern as written below. The neck is ever so slightly larger than the tweed, but all else is the same. I LOVE the comfortable way this one feels on!

Then I made a cropped version using Big Twist from Joann in the “Taupe” colorway. For this version I stopped adding length to the “body” when I hit round 32 (for size medium).

My final version is reserved only for date nights or I may gift it to a younger version of myself. Ha! For this version I used regular Brava Worsted in the “Fairy Tale” colorway and stopped adding length to the body when I hit round 20. This one is a super crop that looks great with high waisted pants and heels. 🔥

Pattern Notes:

Even numbered rows are “Right Side” (RS) on the body.

Keep slip stitches on even numbered rows on the looser side.

Hdcslst Ribbing (tutorial here on HeartHookHome.com)

Berry = YO, pull up a loop in designated st. Ch-1, YO, pull up another loop in same st. (5 loops on hook) YO and pull through all 5 loops, chain 1 to close the stitch. (Full tutorial here on HeartHookHome.com)

Start with the bottom band and work up in one piece requiring minimal sewing.

  1. How do you do the berry stitch? I don't see any explanations on the sweater pattern or the dog sweater pattern, HELP!
    1. Hi Karen! The video tutorial is linked with the gauge swatch pattern, or you can find it here: https://youtu.be/-shLQ80rDJM
  2. Hi! This pullover looks gorgeous and I’ve just started making it. It will be my first wearable project and I had a question: does the bust measurement table show the size your actual bust or the garment’s bust? If my bust is 36 inches, do I go for the closest match, size S (38"), or do I need to pick a roomier option to have an overall better fit?
    1. The measurements are of the finished garment...so I would do the Small, unless you like a more roomy fit.
  3. I think this is my favorite one of your patterns yet- it's beautiful! I especially love the cropped version! Thank you for all that you do! :)
