Aglow Tunisian Duster Vest Pattern

The Aglow Tunisian Duster Vest was included in the Harvest Moon pattern collection, worked as a collaboration between myself and WeCrochet back in 2023. Now that its been a while, I am remaking each of these designs using the original yarns but in fresh new colorways. Follow along on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and YouTube!

So far I’ve made the Eclipse Tunisian Cocoon, which is a glorious oversized cocoon that is like wearing a hug. That pattern is worked as one large rectangle, then seamed strategically and adding an edging and cuffs. Easy peasy! Find the Eclipse Tunisian Cocoon Pattern here.

Next we made the Comet Keyhole Scarf. This is a fun, quick make that is an absolutely stunner! Feed the smaller end through the holes created on the opposite end of the scarf, which is made with a lovely contrasting color, and this accessory surely steals the show.

This Aglow Tunisian Duster pattern you’re currently reading is the third pattern in the collection of five. We’ll make this duster vest together, then I’ll make the Spectral Pillow Cover and lastly we’ll make the Tranquil Tunisian Pullover. I can’t wait!

Let’s get going on this Aglow Duster Vest, shall we? It uses a gorgeous, open weave stitch called the Tunisian Back Bar Stitch. For this we are basically crocheting into the “Backward Pass” that is such a classic look of Tunisian crochet, effectively eliminating it from view. Instead we are left with very open stitches that are nice and tall and so breathable you’ll think it’s alive! Hahaha!!

For this duster vest I am using Shine Sport, a beautiful 60% Pima Cotton/40% Modal yarn from WeCrochet. This “Cosmopolitan” colorway is absolutely delicious! I originally used the “Grapefruit” for that orange pop of color and it’s still one of my favorites.

Other great yarn options would include Lion Brand Coboo, Farmhouse Cotton, or Premier Cotton Fair.

Sport/#2 Weight Yarn (Shine Sport in “Grapefruit” pictured)

Tunisian Crochet hook in size H/5mm or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge: 14 sts and 7 rows = 4” in Tunisian Back Bar Stitch, blocked

Sizing:

(XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL) = (37.5, 41, 44.5, 48, 51.5, 55, 58, 61.5, 65)” finished bust measurement. Garment is meant to be worn with 2-5” positive ease.

Pattern Notes:

In Tunisian crochet, the first loop on hook counts as st and is included in st count.

Make last st of Backward Pass looser than normal, making it easier to work into in following row.

The back bar of first ch of previous Backward Pass is last st in row, not the last loop of Forward Pass as in normal Tunisian crochet. (see video tutorial)

Pull up Forward Pass loops to 0.5” height.

Armholes:

Count (14, 16, 16, 16, 18, 20, 20, 22, 22) rows down from shoulder seam on each side and place a stitch marker.

Side Seam:

With WS together, RS facing, begin at marker at bottom of armhole, align and sew (24, 24, 24, 24, 24, 26, 26, 26, 26) rows of Front and Back together, leaving (30, 30, 30, 30, 30, 28, 28, 28, 28) rows unseamed at the bottom hem for side slits. Repeat for 2nd side.
