Eclipse Tunisian Cocoon Crochet Pattern

The Eclipse Cocoon is the perfect thing to throw on with literally any other clothing. Running to the store? Grab the cocoon! Heading to the movies? Grab the cocoon! Let’s make one using this free pattern.
Eclipse Cocoon Crochet Pattern
This pattern pairs comfort with style. It’s similar to wearing a poncho with as comfortable it is, and styling it is effortless. You could make a bright colored cocoon for a statement piece or a staple in a neutral color that pairs with just about anything.
For this cocoon we are using a worsted weight yarn, Brava Tweed. I am using the Kenai colorway to remake this cocoon and I can’t wait to show you that when I’m done.
You can substitute with any other worsted weight yarn. Something like regular Brava Worsted, Herrschners Worsted, Mary Maxim Starlette, or any other yarn that can meet gauge.

You will also need Tunisian crochet hooks for this pattern, and the entire Harvest Moon collection– if you’re making them all with me. For this collection I am using the Aura double ended hook set from WeCrochet. This is an excellent hook set that has everything you could need to make almost anything using Tunisian crochet. The hook sizes included are a great array of the sizes that you could need in future projects, as well.

Materials:
Worsted/#4 Weight Yarn
-approx. (1525, 1750) yds
–Brava Tweed used
Cabled Tunisian crochet hook in size L/8mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Double-ended Tunisian crochet hook in size L/8mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Gauge: 15 sts and 10 rows = 4” in Tunisian Yarn Over Lace Stitch, unblocked
Sizing: (One-Size, Plus-Size) = (42”, 62”) finished bust measurement.
Pattern Notes:
Pattern written using US terms.
The loop on the hook counts as the first stitch and is included in the stitch count.
It is helpful to make the first stitch of each Backward Pass a bit tighter than normal.

Ch(s): Chain(s)
ES: Edge Stitch (aka outside stitch)
RS: Right Side
Sl st: Slip Stitch

TRS: Tunisian Reverse Stitch
TSS: Tunisian Simple Stitch
WS: Wrong Side
YO: Yarn Over
Backward Pass = Ch-1, * YO pull through 2 loops * repeat between * * to end.
TRslst: Tunisian Reverse Slip Stitch = Sl st into the back vertical bar of the st.
TSS2tog: Tunisian Simple Stitch Two together = Insert hook under vertical bars of next two stitches at the same time, pull up a loop.

Pattern Body:
Using cabled hook…
Row 1: Ch-(156, 188), pull up a loop in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Backward Pass. (156, 188) sts
Rows 2 through 84: TSS2tog, * YO, TSS2tog * repeat between * * across, YO, pull up a loop in ES. Backward Pass. (156, 188) sts
Row 85: Sl st across, Sl st in ES. (156, 188) sts
Fasten off leaving a long tail for seaming. With WS facing and as oriented in this video (or embedded below), fold top half of rectangle down and line up with bottom edge. Seam from the bottom right corner up, leaving 26 sts unworked for cuffs. Repeat seaming on left edge.
Body Edging:
With RS facing and using the double ended hook, attach yarn with a sl st in any st around opening. Mark first st made with st marker.
Round 1: TSS around. Backward Pass. (312, 376) sts
Rounds 2 through 8: * TKS in next st, TPS in next st * repeat between * * around. Backward Pass. (312, 376) sts
Round 9: TRS around. Backward Pass. (312, 376) sts
Round 10: TRslst around. (312, 376) sts
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Cuffs:
With RS facing and using double ended hook, attach yarn with a sl st in any st around opening.
Round 1: TSS around. Backward Pass. (26 sts)
Rounds 2 through 8: * TKS, TPS * repeat between * * around. Backward Pass. (26 sts)
Round 9: TRS around. Backward Pass. (26 sts)
Round 10: TRslst around. (26 sts)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Repeat for other cuff. You’re finished!
