I’m not sure how it happened, but here we are at the end of the 2022 Car Series of patterns. The December installment of this fun and useful crochet series is for a glove box organizer! Grab your hook and let’s make one!
Glove Box Organizer
This glove box organizer is a free crochet pattern that you can use to store all necessary documents (registration and insurance cards, etc) as well as your tire pressure gauge. Never hunt for that tire gauge in the glove box again!
This 2022 Car Series has been so fun to design. We’ve had some truly wonderful and useful patterns included! See all 12 of the car series of patterns at this link.
In 2020 we had a Cloth Series, in which we made three different sizes cloths using a new stitch each month for a total of 36 cloths.
In 2021 we had a Household Series, in which we made 12 different things for the home that are fun and useful, My favorite part about crocheting!
For this glove box organizer we are using Dishie which is a 100% cotton yarn. We are using a smaller hook than I normally would for this yarn because we want the fabric created to be nice and stiff.
Materials:
Dishie 100% Cotton (approx. 200 yards)
Crochet hook in size G/4mm
Metal sew-on snaps (like these)
Sewing needle and thread
Gauge: unimportant, but 4″ width = 8 clusters
Pattern Notes:
Pattern written using US terms.
We are using the Aligned Clusters stitch. There is a full tutorial for this stitch (including video) right here on Heart Hook Home.
Fsc = Foundation Single Crochet (tutorial here)
Fdc = Foundation Double Crochet (tutorial here)
The ch-1 to start each row does not count as a stitch.
Odd numbered rows are “right side”.
Cluster = Dc4tog in same stitch
Pattern:
Row 1: Fsc-37 (or ch-38, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each to end.) (37)
Row 2: Ch-1, turn, sc in first st. * ch-1, sk-1 st, sc in next * repeat between * * to end. (37)
Row 3: Ch-1, turn, hdc in first st, Cluster in ch-sp. * ch-1, Cluster in next ch-sp * repeat between * * to end. Hdc in last st. (37)
Row 4: Ch-1, turn, sc in first st. * ch-1, sk-Cluster, sc in between clusters * repeat between * * across. Ch-1, sc in final st. (37)
Rows 5 – 38: alternate previous two rows (37)
Row 39: repeat row 3 (37)
Row 40: Ch-1, turn, sc in each st and ch-sp to end. (37)
Edging row:
Row 41: Ch-1, turn, sc in each st to end, 3sc in corner st. Sc across row ends, 3sc in corner st. Sc in each st across, 3sc in corner st. Sc across row ends, 2sc in same as first st. Fasten off leaving a long tail. We’ll use this for construction.
Construction:
Fold bottom of rectangle 5 cluster rows up as pictured.
Using the yarn tail from the edging, sew stitch for stitch down to fold line. Weave in end.
Making sure that the fold is even and edges will be level, attach at the same point on the other side of pocket and sew stitch for stitch down to fold line. Weave in all ends.
Position magnetic snaps and sew into place securely using the needle and thread.
Tire Pressure Gauge Slot:
Row 1: Fdc-6 (or ch-8, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each to end. (6)
Rows 2 – 5: Ch-2, turn, dc in each st to end. (6)
Finishing: Ch-1, sc around the entire rectangle, placing 3sc in each corner. Fasten off leaving a long enough tail to sew to pouch.
Sew this rectangle into a tube and secure along the inner fold of the pouch. Weave in all ends. You’re finished!
I am very much looking forward to starting a NEW Crochet Series in 2023. Can’t believe it’s that time already but here we are!
