Do you have a cup holder in your car that gets a little nasty? Would a cute little car coaster help with that? You bet it would! Today we’re going to whip up a SUPER fast, and useful, cup holder coaster for the car. A car coaster, if you will. 😎

This cup holder coaster is small and easy to whip up in just a few minutes. This coaster is perfect for when the weather is warm and you’ve got a cold beverage in the car. The condensation from the cup gets down in the bottom of the cup holder and it can get gross.

Spill a smidge of coffee? Oh noooo! But wait, there’s the cup holder coaster catching any spills. Throw it in the washer and it’s good as new! I love that. It really is the little things, isn’t it?

This year I am working on a Car Series. The second Friday of each month I share a NEW pattern for automobiles. The first (January) was a seatbelt cover (that I love and appreciate every day!) and this car coaster is the second installment.

Finished Dimensions: approx. 3″ across

*most car coasters are ~2.5″ across. I noticed that these were too small for my car when I used the G/4mm hook. I went up to an H/5mm hook and they fit much better. Try one with the G hook first, then go up that hook size if needed. Questions? Just ask!

Round 1: Magic Circle, ch-1, 12hdc in circle. Join to top of first hdc. (12)

Round 2: Ch-1, 3hdc in first st, 2hdc in each remaining st around. Join to top of first hdc. (25)

Round 3: Do not chain. * sk-2 sts, (2hdc, dc, 2hdc) in next st * repeat between * * around. Sk final 2 sts, fasten off using Invisible Join going into the second hdc of the row (it helps to further hide the join).

That is it. Less than 8 yards of yarn and you’ve got an adorable little cup holder coaster. Whip up a set in just a few minutes or make a bunch of them and sell them at craft fairs! What a great way to use up scrap yarn, too! 🚗 💨

  1. I crocheted the car coasters, but also did one for the top of the mugs. I added a chain of 6 to the coaster, to hold the coaster to the straw while drinking. We have a lot of sun in South Texas, which causes a glare, which can be a problem while driving. It solved the problem perfectly...Thank you so much for the car coaster pattern!
