These One-Skein Baby Pants are fashioned from a crocheted octagon that is cleverly folded to create bottoms. We’ll then add a waistband and cuffs to the legs and your little one will be ready to roll!

This is the SEVENTH installment of the 2023 One Skein Crochet Series. In this year-long series I am sharing one new pattern each month that uses one skein of yarn or less. I am trying to stick with commonly available yarns and yarn weights that a fiber enthusiast is likely to have in their yarn stash.

In this case I am using Brava Sport, a size 2/baby weight/sport weight, 100% acrylic yarn. Each skein has 340 yards which will make a size 0/3M, 3/6M, or 6/9M pants using this free crochet pattern. Of course, if you want to continue the pattern to continue growing the pants, that is absolutely possible – you’d just need more yarn. 😉

I did try this pattern using a worsted weight yarn, Brava Worsted, pictured here in “Solstice Heather” colorway. I don’t love the feel of the fabric as much because they are heavier weight, but it is absolutely doable.

If you do not have Brava Sport on hand you could substitute with any size 2/baby weight yarn provided it has enough yardage. Great substitutions would be Premier Cotton Fair, Mary Maxim Pastoral Knits yarn, Premier Universal Yarn Uptown Sport, or any size 2 yarn you have on hand.
