Notes:

• The chain-5 at the beginning of each row accounts for the first double crochet and chain-2.
• To end a row, place the last dc into the third chain from the beginning of the previous row.
• Each “block” is three stitches wide, consisting of a two chains and a double crochet.
• As written the vest is about 40” from neck to hem.
• To make the vest shorter: Each block is about ¾” tall/wide. For every three chains subtracted from the beg chain, one block is removed. So, if you remove 30 chains and start with 125 instead, you would have 10 fewer blocks and the vest would be about 8” shorter.
• Pattern written using US terms.
• Body is worked in one piece, then the hood is added to the body.

  1. Just wondering if you will make a video of this beautiful pattern. Not real good at reading patterns. Love your work. Thank you
  2. Hi Ashlea, this is really cute! Could you please provide a gauge, and bust/hip measurements with the sizes? I don't know which size to make. Thank you.
  3. Hi Ashlea, love your patterns. I need some help on the hood. How many blocks should there be in those rows?
  4. How different do you think the sizing would be if I used Caron Simply Soft, a size 4 yarn, instead of the DK size 3 yarn?
  5. Hi! Thank you so much for your patterns. You’re amazing! Two things- I’m making the L/XL and on row 30 it states to work until you have 15 blocks back over your ch48. However, if I do that, I have two chains left. Should that be 16? 16 makes sense because it will bring the count of the row back up to 50 blocks. I just want to make sure I’m doing it correctly! Second, I followed the hook size bit using Comfy Cotton- and it seems my vest will be short length, not the beautiful flowing one you have. I can’t imagine the yarn would be the issue but it might be- would I be able to add length after or do I just frog all 30 rows? Thanks Ashlea!!
    1. Not sure if you figured it out but that's correct. She says to do it until you have 15 then skip 2 and DC on top of next DC. That makes 16.

  8. I just wanted to say i absolutely love your patterns. I learned how to crochet in 2009 and haven't made anything other then hats, blankets and stuffed animals. Because of your patterns i am heading out of my comfort zone and going to try to make the hooded vest. Im always crocheting things for other people and have decided its time to make something for myself. Thanks again for all the amazing and beautiful patterns
    1. Hi Jessica! I am so glad my patterns have inspired you to try something different! I hope you enjoy your vest! Happy crocheting!
  9. Ashlea: pattern looked easy until I tried to do it. I got lost at Row 81 where I should attach the 48 chains to a corner and turn....do I continue stitching on the chain I just made? I wish I could see progressive pictures or a video.....I've frogged the chain several times. I know this should be the second armhole but it doesn't seem to be adjacent to the first one! Thanks!
    1. Hi Dianne! I'm sorry you are struggling...you will ch 48, skip over the 16 unworked blocks and slip stitch to that top corner (the shoulder)...turn, ch5, and work into the chain made in previous row for row 82. Hope that makes sense and helps!
  10. Could you show a picture of how you lined up the shoulder seams? I must be off. Followed the pattern for size L. There are more than 10 blocks in the front panel and I’m not sure where it is supposed to go?
    1. Hi Lauri! You will not sew up all the blocks on the front of the vest, only half of them. The unsewn blocks will form a lapel in the very front of the vest, and that is where you will be attaching to construct the hood. Hope that helps!
    1. Hi Diana! You will be creating the armhole with the ch-48, so you will skip over the 16 unworked blocks from the previous rows and slip stitch into the 3rd chain of the ch. 5. Hope that makes sense!
  11. Would love to see pictures of stages and how it comes together . Hoping this will be on your you tube channel soon!
  12. I love this vest! The red, white and blue one seems longer and bigger. Did you do 155 chains? Also, at which row do you start the stripes? Sorry! I have to make this and not sure how to adjust patterns.
    1. Hi Maura! The red, white, and blue was made per pattern, just with an I hook...which is why it is a bit bigger. The red/white stripes were done on the back portion of the pattern, so rows 29-60. Hope that helps!
