If you love Tunisian Crochet and you love wearing scarves, you have landed in just the right place! This is the Tunisian Stardust Scarf and it uses just one stitch to make. Easy peasy!

Tunisian Stardust Scarf

I love this Tunisian scarf because of the drape and the asymmetrical factor. We are using the Tunisian Double Crochet to make this scarf and it is so fun and easy to work up. Galileo has several NEW colorways and to celebrate I have a new pattern using these colors.

I decided to play with the colors a bit on this one. Not only is this an asymmetrical scarf, but the colors are mirrored. For example we start with twenty-two rows of green and end with twenty-two rows of gold. Cool! Of course, you could make yours in a solid color instead.

Very similar to the regular Double Crochet stitch, this variation is easy to learn and fun to make. You can even practice a small piece with me using this Tunisian Double Crochet video tutorial using a regular crochet hook before investing in a brand new afghan hook set.

I decided to name this one the Stardust Scarf because these two new colorways of Galileo yarn I used are “Solaris” and “Orion”, gorgeous colors of gold and green.

Materials:

Galileo Yarn (Size 2/50% Merino Wool, 50% Viscose from Bamboo) in “Solaris” and “Orion” colorways
-approx. 345 yards of each, 685 yards total

Pattern Notes:

Tdc = Tunisian Double Crochet (tutorial here)

Backward Pass = Ch-1, YO pull through two loops to end.

Pattern:

With Color A

Row 1: Ch-3, 3Tdc in 3rd ch from hook. Backward Pass: Ch-1, YO pull through two loops to end.

Rows 2 through 22: Ch-1, increase (yarn over one extra time for first st only, leave loop on hook) Tdc in each st to end. (increase by one st per row) Backward Pass: Ch-1, YO pull through two loops to end.

Change to Color B

Rows 23 through 28: repeat row 2

Rows 29 through 46: repeat row 2

Change to Color B

Rows 47 through 56: repeat row 2

Change to Color A

Rows 57 through 70: repeat row 2

Change to Color B

We will now begin decreasing by one stitch per row. We are still adding the extra loop to the beginning of the row (the increase) but we are decreasing by TWO on the opposite side.

Rows 71 through 84: repeat row 2. Backward Pass: Ch-1, YO pull through four loops,  then YO pull through two to end.

Change to Color A

Rows 85 through 94: repeat row 71

Change to Color B

Rows 95 through 112: repeat row 71

Change to Color A

Rows 113 through 118: repeat row 71

Change to Color B

Rows 119 through 140: repeat row 71

Fasten off and weave in all ends. That’s it! Once you hit those decrease rows things really start picking up speed. I hope you love this one as much as I do!

  1. I am having an issue with the decrease. When you pull through 4 loops, does this count as one stitch? So when I start my next row crocheting right to left do I stitch in that stitch or skip over it and go to the outside stitch? I have a sample and tried different ways and cannot get it to look right. It isn’t a subtle decrease but abrupt looking like a turn. Thank you. Loving the ease of this.
