If there’s one thing I value most in patterns, it is versatility. This new Rose Cardi crochet pattern has so much versatility I can hardly stand myself. If you’re looking for a top-down, extremely EASY-to-crochet pattern, this is it. See the difference the yarn color choice and the length makes!

Rose Cardi Crochet Pattern

The Rose Cardi crochet pattern is named Rose because of Rose Nylund in the Golden Girls. For this pattern we are using the Herringbone double crochet stitch, which reminds me of herring, which of course reminds me of Rose. 🥰

If you need a tutorial or a refresher on the Herringbone Double Crochet stitch, you’ll want to head over and check out this post so you’re ready. This is a very simple variation on the regular double crochet stitch. If you can do that, you can absolutely do this!

You could make this cardigan in one solid color as in the gray version shown, or make it longer and change colors as you go. Because this is a top-down pattern, you can also continue adding length until it hits exactly where you like.

There are optional pockets to add as well. I think that the color changes and the extra length on the rainbow version makes it look more sleek without the pockets, and the everyday look of the solid gray version is PERFECT with the pockets added.

The rainbow version makes me feel ready for a night out on the town, while the solid color version will be perfect for running errands or bumming around the house. Love the options here!

This cardigan pattern comes in sizes XS through 5XL. I love the simplicity of this design as well as the fitted 3/4 sleeves. Aren’t they fab?!

For the rainbow version of this cardigan I used Shine Sport yarn from WeCrochet. This is a size 2 yarn – cotton/modal blend that drapes in the most delicious way.

The gray version is Yarn Bee Baby Bee Sweet Delight in the “cloudy” colorway. This is a size 3 acrylic yarn (but a bit on the thin side for a size 3, in my opinion). Other great yarn options would include any size 2 or 3 yarn in a bamboo or cotton blend, or acrylic.

  1. I purchase this pattern a while and would love to start on it soon. Can you please tell me what colors you used for the rainbow one, I love all the colors so much. Thanks for all the great patterns.
    1. Hi Christina! The colors used were Grapefruit, Dandelion, French Blue, Macaw, Iris, and Cosmopolitan.
  2. I love all the colors you used. Do you know exactly what colors you used? I can't wait to make it. Thanks for all the great patterns.
  3. I started making this in size L, which is appropriate based on stated measurements. But, just after the split, I'm finding that although the back/shoulder width is perfect, the fronts are overlapping. What adjustments can I make?
  4. Great pattern! I'm looking forward to getting started. The pattern gives the total yardage needed for the full-length version, but not the shorter (gray) one, which is the one I want to make. How much yarn is needed for that one? Thanks! Also, thanks for including the note on adapting the long version for petite sizes. We height-challenged people appreciate it!
    1. Hi Pat! The pattern has been updated to include yardage for the short version. If you purchased on Ravelry, the update should be there for you...if you purchased on Etsy or on the Blog Shop, please send an email to sarah@hearthookhome.com and we can get that sent to you. =)
