Did you see? Heart Hook Home has released a brand NEW set of crochet hooks design by yours truly, Ashlea. These are brand new to the market, and I know you’re going to love them. Let’s dive in and learn all about them!

Crochet Hook Set
As you may know, I crochet a lot on the go. You will almost always find me with yarn and hook either in my purse or in my hand, whether that is in the car on the way to dinner (as a passenger, of course), hanging out with friends, or at the park during my morning walks. Literally anytime, anywhere.

Back in August of 2023 I had the thought that if only I had a ruler on the back of my hook I could measure on the go, meaning less frogging and second guessing, and more stress-free crochet which leads to more completed items. Win-win-win!

Why add a Ruler?
So much of crocheting depends on the size of your stitches. Use the patent-pending ruler to make sure you’re always right on track! Whether you’re using a thin yarn with a smaller hook or a larger yarn with a larger hook, you still need to know how large your stitches are so that you can compare to the gauge of the pattern you’re following.
Your crocheted item will not come out the same size as the pattern you’re following if your individual stitches are not the same size.
You might also need to plan the sizing of your piece more effectively, or to estimate the yardage you will need to create an object of a certain size. Read more on estimating yardage needs for a specific project here.
My boyfriend, Kelly, used to work in prototyping and when I mentioned the need for a ruler on the back of the hook he looked at me and said “I know a guy”.
And that’s how this wild hook journey began. Now there’s a patent pending and crocheters all over are loving them!
In August of 2023 we took a trip down to the Dallas area to get to know the team. We walked in with a handful of crochet hooks in different shapes and sizes and a dream. I explained my vision.

There were several things I was a stickler on…
The ruler along the back had to be at least 4″ long. Originally it was 5″ but that made for too long of a crochet hook for various reasons in my opinion, so we removed some of the length.
The ruler on the back had to incorporate centimeters as well as inches.
I wanted five sizes included in the set, and to start with the “core sizes”, the ones that get used most frequently for average use. I always planned for an “expansion pack” of sizes that are both smaller and larger than the initial set. Those sizes will be coming as soon as possible.
I had several color palette ideas in my head including Peach/Rose, Blue/Silver, Moss/Rose, Gray/Charcoal, and others. Maybe a rainbow of sorts? I can’t wait to share all of the gorgeous colors with you!

When we started making revisions and fine tuning things…
We altered the shape of the head. I narrowed that down so the hook was easier to insert into the stitches. Not pointy, but shaped just enough to really spear those stitches and crochet with speed.
Wanna save this for later?
We changed the amount of “hook” on the hooks. Originally there was so much of a hook so that the crochet was almost grabbing you back! We made the hook portion just hook-ish enough to pull up loops with speed and precision.

We altered the rate of the “shoulder” that makes up the base of the hook shaft. Since all of the handles are the same size and the hook shafts are different sizes (4mm, 4.5mm, 5mm, 5.5mm, 6mm) we needed the base of the shaft to slope to the correct diameter. Too big of a slope and it will distort your stitches, too small and it could create a snaggable lip. We got it JUST right.
We decided on what color of the case we wanted, including the zipper and the logo, and the overall layout of the case.
We chose the perfect amount of “brushed” the aluminum should have. Too little polishing and the hook felt like sandpaper through the yarn. Too much polishing and the hook would squeak through the yarn. We decided on a medium-level which makes for a delicious brushed aluminum. These hooks really glide through the yarn like a warm butter knife. Dreamy!
We removed as much of the weight as possible by boring out the entire length of the crochet hook. Since the aluminum runs the entire hook length (which means we don’t have to worry about the shaft coming apart from the handle), this also helped to create a more balanced design.

Other Important Features and FAQ:
The smallest hook is 4mm which is the lightest color handle in the palette.
The largest hook in 6mm which is the darkest color handle in the palette.
The silicon sleeves are placed around the handle to the appropriate size hook.
The ruler itself measures 4″ (10 cm) and from the start of the ruler to the tip of the hook measures exactly 6″(15cm).

Each hook is made from one piece of aluminum. This makes the hook glide through yarn with ease — no snags, splits, or frustration.
Each gorgeous crochet hook set comes with it’s own zippered hard case with additional storage!

Crocheters are already receiving their hooks and all of the hook reviews have been resoundingly positive. I love that so much!! Read all of the reviews for the new Crochet Hook Set at this link.
