Brickhouse Bucket Hat

I like to go on walks every morning to get my day started and the juices flowing. I love to walk my laps around the park and listen to the birds, and to feel the morning sunshine on my face. As I grow older, however, I realize that protecting my skin is more and more important. It’s no wonder bucket hats are so popular!

how to crochet a bucket hat

This bucket hat crochet pattern is so quick to work up. I can whip one up in an afternoon! I love that I can change up the color of yarn that I use to match my favorite shirts or leggings. The staple black will go with anything, and I think a white or gray would be super cute, too.

You could also do one in your school colors as I have done for my son here. Every Friday is “wear green day” at school and he is so excited to take this with him. He’ll be all decked out at football games and other school activities as well. He was just so excited that I designed this one for him and he couldn’t stop smiling. ♥

What yarn to use to crochet a bucket hat:

For this bucket hat pattern you will want to use a worsted weight 100% cotton yarn. This could be scraps even, because they only take about 185 yards of yarn! If you’re using three colors as I used in my son’s bucket hat, plan for 60-70 yards of each to be safe. That’s an even better opportunity to use up odd balls of cotton.

What’s great about Dishie cotton is that if you are purchasing yarn for this purpose (instead of using scraps) just one skein is MORE than enough for one hat. Each Dishie skein has 190 yards. Perfect! Or, if you grabbed a Dishie Cone of yarn you could get FOUR hats from just one of them.
