SIZE 14/16 BLANKET CARDIGAN PATTERN:

Row 1: Fhdc-130 (or ch-131 and hdc in 2nd st and in each across) (130)
Rows 2 – 49: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end (130)

Use stitch markers and mark 41 sts in from each side to start armholes.

Right side
Row 50: Ch-1, hdc in next 45 sts (45)
Rows 51 – 70: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end (45)
Fasten off and weave in end.

Center/back
Attach yarn in next open st.
Row 50: Ch-1, hdc in next 40 sts (40)
Rows 51 – 70: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end (40)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Left side
Attach yarn in next open st.
Row 50: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end (45)
Rows 51 – 70: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end (45)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

SEW SHOULDERS:
Fold front sides in and line up the edges of the top to sew the shoulders. Starting at the outside, sew front to back for 10 sts on each side. This will leave 35 unsewn stitches on both fronts and 20 unsewn stitches along the neck for a total of 90 stitches.

COLLAR:
Attach yarn at what would be the right lapel. We will work our way to the shoulder, across the neck and around to the other side, continuing in rows. If you’ve made the Painted Canyon Cardigan for kids, the concept is the same!

Row 1: Ch-1, hdc in next 35 sts, hdc2tog (in the same 2 sts as shoulder seam) hdc in next 20 sts, hdc2tog (in the same 2 sts as shoulder seam) hdc in next 35 sts (92)
Rows 2 – 15: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end. (92)
Row 16: Ch-1, turn, hdc in next 3 sts, ch-2, sk 2 sts, hdc in next 82 sts, ch-2, sk 2 sts. Hdc in last 3 sts. (92)
Rows 17 – 18: Ch-1, turn, hdc in each st to end. (92)

SLEEVES:
Attach yarn at base of armhole with sl st.
Round 1: Ch-1, hdc in same st and evenly around armhole. Join to top of first hdc with sl st. (40)

Rounds 2 – 5: Ch-1, turn, hdc in same st as join and each st around. (40)

Round 6: Ch-1, turn, sk very first st (where the join was last row as pictured) and hdc in each st around. Join to top of first hdc with sl st. (39)

Adding the sleeves to a crochet house coat

Round 7: Ch-1, turn, hdc in same st as join and each st around. (39)

Rounds 8 – 9: repeat rounds 6 & 7 (38)

Rounds 10 – 23: Ch-1, turn, hdc in same st as join and each st around. (38)

Rounds 24 – 41: repeat rounds 4 & 5 nine times (ending with 29)

Rounds 42 – 52: Ch-1, turn, hdc in same st as join and each st around. (29)

***if added length is needed, do that here***

Round 53: Ch-1, turn, fphdc around first post, bphdc around next. Repeat around, fphdc around last open post. Join to top of first fphdc with sl st. (the chain-1 will look like a bphdc) (29)

Round 54: Ch-1, turn, bphdc around first, fphdc around next. Repeat around, bphdc around last. Join to top of first bphdc with sl st. (29)

Rounds 55 – 56: Repeat rows 53 & 54

Round 57: Ch-1, turn, sc in each st around. Join using Invisible Join.

Weave in all of your ends throughout the cardigan. If you’d like to add fringe, read on!

FRINGE:

Using a hardcover book about 10” tall, wind yarn around and around. When you run out of yarn, or you get a decent amount wrapped, simply cut the yarn at both ends of the book. This will give you a pile of yarn about 9” long that will turn into about 4” long fringe when halved.

Separate the fringe into bundles, using about 4 – 5 strands per bundle. Fasten the bundles every 5 rows up the front of the cardigan; right side, left side, or both!

BUTTONS:

Sew the right shoulder button on the inside, and left shoulder button on the outside (or visa versa). I highly recommend testing button placement by “pinning” up each side using stitch markers. Place buttons at the shoulder seam and on the first row of the collar. Try to weave in a few stitches in each direction so that all of the weight is more evenly distributed instead of just hanging on one stitch.

Remember that one more size is coming, so stay tuned!

Hi Irene! The main body of this piece should measure approximately 43" wide and 25" tall. Hope this helps!
