Denzel Sweater Crochet Pattern

The Denzel sweater for men has been one of the most interesting designs I have created to date. This sweater uses a thinner weight yarn (size 2) which means that the fabric created is lightweight, not too bulky, and is super comfortable to wear. There aren’t nearly enough crochet sweater designs for men so I’m hoping to change that one pattern at a time.

Sizes for this sweater range from XXS – 3XL, and since this is a top-down construction can be made as short or as long as needed.

Here my son is modeling the size large of the Denzel sweater. I absolutely loved the feel of this fabric as I was crocheting it up, and once washed and the stitches settled into themselves the drape and overall texture is simply perfect.

For this pattern I used Yarntopia yarn, a size 2, 100% acrylic yarn that has an amazing softness. Other good yarn options would include Brava Sport, Premier Cotton Fair, Lion Brand Oh Baby! organic cotton, Twister from Hobbii, or any other size 2 yarn that creates a nice fabric when you make your gauge swatch.

Make sure to check your gauge against mine below. Get as close to my gauge as you can so that your sweater comes out in the correct size. If you need help adjusting your gauge I have an in-depth tutorial on crochet gauge here. I also spent one full Heart Hook Home Video Crochet Podcast explaining gauge, why it matters, and how to adjust it here. I highly recommend watching if you’re new to crocheting wearables!

When designing this crochet pattern for men I decided to use simple stitches that would create a subtle, stylish fabric. The Lemon Peel stitch fits the bill perfectly! The Lemon Peel is made up of single crochet and double crochet stitches, which means that it is ideal for a confident beginner – even if this is the first wearable attempted.

  1. New to wearables, and wondering how many balls/skeins of yarn I would need for this project. I'm looking to make a sweater out of wool from Wales, and so I need to know how much to order. Thanks! Sarah
  2. Hi, firstly thanks for the great pattern, I purchased it through Ravelry. Quick question on the gauge: at top of pattern it says 20 stitches will give a 4 inch square, but then below it says in the gauge swatch pattern to use 24 stitches. Am a bit confused, should it be 20 or 24? Thanks
    1. Hi Karen! The gauge swatch pattern is deliberately larger than what actual gauge is because when you measure for gauge, you do not want to include outside stitches in your measurement. So you will want 20 sts in 4".
  3. Hi i purchased this pattern just now but it hasn't come through after i paid for it. Can you pls send it to me.
