Remember that you want to use Invisible Decrease for the sc2tog (decreases).  It helps to create a prettier, smoother transition in amigurumi.

Materials:

Size G (4mm) crochet hook
Stitch marker
Gray worsted weight yarn
Fuzzy gray yarn
Green yarn (just enough for leaf)
Black yarn (just enough for nose)
Pink felt (just a bit for a mouth)
Two buttons for eyes (or safety eyes if for a small child)
Upholstery needle
Polyfill (or extra yarn as stuffing)

Gauge:

Unimportant

Notes:

*Work in a spiral, do NOT join at the end of each round
*Use your stitch marker to note the beginning stitch of each row
*Use Invisible Decrease for prettier sc2tog (see video tutorial)

Pattern:

Head:
Round 1: Magic circle. 8sc in circle. (8)
Round 2: 2sc in each st around (16)
Round 3: sc in each st around (16)
Round 4: *sc in next st, 2sc in next* repeat from * * around (24)
Round 5: sc in each st around (24)
Round 6: *sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next* repeat from * * around (32)
***add safety eyes between row 8 and 9 about 8 sts apart***
Rounds 7 – 13: sc in each st around (32)
Round 14: *sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog* repeat from * * around (24)
Round 15: sc in each st around (24)
Round 16: *sc in next st, sc2tog* repeat from * * around (16)
***add stuffing and begin strap***
Squish the head closed and line up the remaining 16 sts. Crochet through the very first two, then the next two, then the next two etc to the end until you have a closed head with 8 stitches across.

Strap:
Rows 1 – 50 (or until strap is about 9” long): Ch-1, sc in each st across. (8)
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Ears (make two):
Round 1: Magic circle. Ch-1, 8sc in circle. Join with sl st to top of first sc (8)
Round 2: Ch-1, 2sc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of first sc (16)
Round 3: Ch-1, sc in each next 13 sts. Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.
**using fuzzy yarn, attach at the first st from round 3 and sc around. Fasten off

Leaf:
Ch-6, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each to end (5)
Ch-1, sc in first st, dc in next, tr in next 2 sts, sc in next. In last st place (dc, ch-2, sl st to 2nd ch from hook, dc)
Working up other side…
Sc in next st, dc in next. Tr in next 3 sts, sc in next and sc in very end. Ch-3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in next. Fasten off and weave in ends, sew leaf onto koala’s mouth.

That’s it! You are done with Kenny the Koala bookmark pattern. Don’t you just love him?!

What type of yarn did you use for the ears of the Koala since Red Heart Fur is way to big and can't find the stitches in it? Thanks

I used a wire pet brush on the back and tips of the ears to give them a furry look. I hope this helps.

Hi Ronna! How's it going? They are a bit large, I suppose, about the size of a racquetball?

I am making the Koala bookmark. The head is the size of a baseball. Seems big. Have I gone wrong somewhere? I thought the head would be much smaller, the size of a golf ball?
