I am so excited I have FINALLY finished this mason jar/pallet project that has been sitting in our garage.  About two years ago, I saw some super cute mason jars in a virtual yard sale group – a whole box for $5?! SOLD!

Yes, I bought them two years ago with the intention of completing this project. Don’t judge me.

The point is, I did it.  Right?

Our neighborhood is growing, and every once in a while the builder offers up old, well-used/broken pallets on the side of the road. I picked one up one evening, and we’ve made a few rustic chic home decor items with it (like this wall art!), and this weekend was no different.

While my husband Paul and our youngest, Cameron, created a race car out of old training wheels, I got to work on this new storage idea using said pallet and those old mason jars.

LOVE how it turned out!!

Every morning I’m fumbling through my make up drawer while getting ready for work.  Don’t get me wrong, I hardly ever wear actual makeup.  I usually fix my eyebrows (because I have none) and throw a little blush on my cheeks and call it good.

That being said, I think I may have to create another one just for crochet hooks, my fabric measuring tape, stitch markers etc.  Put it right on the side of my bed… Oh yasssssss!

This will be happening.

Grab an old pallet if you can hunt one down.  Alternatively, you could purchase a single fence board at Lowe’s or Home Depot.

To start, you’ll want to figure out how many jars you want to use, and how far apart you want them to be.  This will, of course, depend on the size of said mason jars.

Are they full size? You might be able to fit three.  Are they the little guys like the ones I used? You might be able to fit six or more!

Next, you’ll want to pick up some steel hose clamps.  The size you need is based on the mouth of your mason jar.  Measure your jar and you’ll know which size clamps to buy.

Prepare your pallet board

Now, I wanted mine to be super rustic-chic lookin’, so I didn’t really do a lot to prepare the board.  I did, however, sand the rough edges where my husband had pulled it free from the rest of the pallet.  No sense hurting myself or others with a jagged edge.  Kapow!

Figure out the placement of your mason jars.  Would you like them to be super close, or just medium close? Remember that some jars are taller, so actually lay them down to measure if needed.

To open the clamp, simply use your flat-head screw driver and pretend like you’re unscrewing.  It will work its way out (the end doesn’t come off) and you can then open up the clamp completely to aide in the fastening to the pallet board.

I decided to go with five jars for mine.  We used a screw for the first, but it was somewhat difficult to get it in between the bars of the clamp.  Instead, we decided to use small-ish nails (we ended up doing two per clamp) for the rest.

This works best with two sets of hands.

Now, grab your measuring tape to make sure you’re placing them evenly along the board. Last thing you want is funky mason jar placement.  😛

After placing your top and bottom clamps, measure the distance between the two to figure out where your next clamp should be placed.

Continue placing clamps…

Place your mason jars inside the clamps, one at a time.  Insert the end of the clamp into the thingamabob and begin tightening.  Tighten it up just enough so as not to break the jar, but so that it is snug.

Attach a sturdy photo frame hanger to the back (I confiscated one from an old frame in our storage room) and voila!

Check out that super handy, super chic result! LOVE it!

Want to make your own? This was literally about the easiest project we’ve done.  Truth be told, it was about the cheapest as well! My favorite.
