red, white, and blue table runner for 4th of July

Patriotic Table Runner Free Crochet Pattern

For this free crochet pattern we are using red, white, and blue cotton yarn; one skein of each (like this) should more than enough. If you are adding the white stars, as mentioned below, grab an extra skein of the white. Yay for cheap and fun crochet projects!

wavy red, white, and blue table runner with firecrackers

This pattern is worked in rounds, starting with the blue center, then alternating between white and red.

Finished table runner dimensions:

Approx. 33″ long x 11″ wide

If you would like to add length to the table runner, add to the beginning chain in multiples of 12 stitches. 12 is the count of the repeat in the “flat” portion of rows 4 – 9. Do one additional repeat for every 12 sts added.

Wavy red, white, and blue crocheted table runner

How awesome is this table runner?! Super fast and super fun once you get the hang of the repeats. If you like, you could use some more of your white yarn and make some of these Crochet Stars.

Whip up 8 (or so) of these stars and sew them evenly spaced down the length of the blue. I decided to leave them off of mine, but if you add them, I’d love to see your photos!

  1. Hi Ashlea, I am having a count problem with Row 3. My count comes to 198. Rows 1 and 2 were perfect. As per instructions: Row 3: Ch-2, 2dc in same st and next 6 sts, dc in next 74 sts. 2dc in next 12 sts, dc in next 74 sts, 2dc in each of last 6 sts. Join to top of first dc using white yarn. (196) I think the issue is in the beginning of the instructions - Ch-2 (no count), 2 DC in same stitch (2 count) and next 6 sts (12 count) , (74 count) for straight part, 2 dc in next 12 sts (24 count), (74 count) for straight part, 2 dc in each of last 6 stitches (12 count). 2+12+74+24+74+12=198 -- That is 2 over the 196 in instructions. I am thinking that the "2 dc in same st" does not belong there especially since it doesn't fit the pattern of Row 1 and 2. I love the pattern - thank you so very much. I'm going to skip those 2 and proceed on.
    1. Hi Ashlea, that's for updating the directions. I see you have changed 2dc in each of last 6 sts to 2dc in each of last 5 sts. It's a great pattern. Andrea
      1. Yes! Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I apologize, I meant to reply and let you know that you were right and I completely spaced it off!
  2. I love this runner. I have red, white, and blue in stylecraft dk and Vanna's choice.. I think its dk too. I'm still a beginner on yarns. Would it be okay to use dk?
