Everyone loved the Dandy Dog Sweater so much (thank you!), and because one can never crochet too many sweaters for their pups, I decided to design a brand NEW dog sweater pattern, this time featuring the Star Stitch. I’m calling it the Stellar Dog Sweater and I just know your pups will love it.

Stellar dog sweater free crochet pattern

Stellar Dog Sweater

The Stellar Dog Sweater is a fun, free, and quick crochet pattern that is so stylish and warm! This pattern is available in size XS, S, and M, as my three pooches are modeling here. ♥ See the sizing chart below to see what size you need to make for your furry friend.

Find the ad-free, printable version of this pattern on Ravlery, Etsy, or in the Heart Hook Home shop. Thank you!

wiener pit bull sweater pattern

Penny is a half Dachshund, half Pit Bull, and 100% awesome. She is a barrel chested beauty that has the cutest little T-Rex arms. She is modeling the medium size for us.

medium sweater pattern for dogs

small size dog sweater pattern

Benson is modeling the small size. He’s about 12 pounds and a bit on the crazy side but he is a good boy and we wouldn’t change him for the world.

XS dog sweater pattern

Bentley is modeling the xtra-small size. He is a 5 lb Yorkie that thinks he runs the show. šŸ˜‰

Materials:

Brava Worsted Yarn (Custard, Tidepool, and Fairy Tale colorways pictured)
-approx. 110 yards for XS
-approx. 185 yards for S
-approx. 360 yards for M

Crochet hook in size H/5mm

Gauge: 7 star sts x 5 full star st rows (including the hdc rows) = 4ā€ square

Note on gauge: Always make your swatch slightly larger than it needs to be so that when you measure you are only including inside stitches, not the outside stitches that are not uniform in shape. More on gaugeĀ here.

Pattern Notes:

Pattern written using US terms.

If needed, add additional length to the “body” rows before starting the “body tapering”.

To start the star stitch rows, ch-3, pull up five loops total so that you have six loops on the hook. A loop in the 2nd chain from the hook, front loop of the 3rd chain, then pull up a loop in the back loop of 3rd chain, then first two stitches of the row as pictured below.

Find the ad-free, printable version of this pattern on Ravlery, Etsy, or in the Heart Hook Home shop. Thank you!

Hi, thank you so much for these doggie sweater patterns. Any idea if I want to do one for a Corgi, should I make the medium size?

WHY is my small dog sweater twisting. The seam isn’t straight so by the time I get to the taper it’s all off kilter. The counts are all spot on. I have torn it out three times now.

Hi Elaine! Unfortunately, I don't have this particular pattern in larger dog sizes, but I do have the Dandy Dog Sweater for big dogs which can be found here: https://hearthookhome.com/easy-crochet-dog-sweater-large-dogs/

Also I'm having trouble with increasing somehow.. I spent all day working on the body and the first star stitch row I have 35 star stitch plus the one sc, and then I have 34.. I didn't count the stars until the armhole row bc it looked wider and wider, but somehow I still have only 34 stars stitches in row 13. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Help please :(

Hi! Without seeing it, I can't say for sure...my best advise is to count your stitches for every row. You are increasing by 1 stitch every round [the 2hdc in 1st st on hdc (odd) rounds, and the extra sc at the end of the star stitch (even) rounds]. If you need more detailed help, you can email [email protected] or send a message to the Heart Hook Home Facebook page.

Hi! Love this pattern, I already made a small Dandy one for a Westie. Now I'd love to make this one for a Border Collie- Blue Heller mix, and I want to make the medium size with a 6 mm hook. Would that work? Or is that too big? I can't decide. Thank you!

I love this sweater. Unfortunately, Harley is much bigger and I don't know how to alter patterns. I'm really a beginner. Maybe someday you'll publish one for bigger gals.

We have a mix of Chiauwau and Australian Shepeard. She is a rescue dog and we could not ask for a better one. Lovable, very freindly, likes to play and is about 12" high and 16lbs. We named her Trouble. It was the only name she would answer to. We love her
