Do you love Tunisian Crochet? If so, you may be due for a new set of Tunisian crochet hooks and boy do I have a review for you! Read on to see why the NEW Tunisian In The Round Hook Set is the perfect set for all of your Tunisian needs, both worked flat and in the round!
Tunisian in the Round Crochet Hook Set Review
As you may have noticed, I’ve been cranking out the Tunisian crochet projects this year. Not only did we have the 2023 Tunisian Crochet Basics crochet-along that spanned a whopping 14 weeks, we also had the Ultimate Guide to Tunisian Crochet, the Full Skein Scarf pattern, and the Tunisian Basketweave Blanket pattern. I even wrote a pattern collection BOOK!
And NOW we are continuing the Tunisian fun with an Advanced Tunisian Crochet workshop hosted here on Heart Hook Home where we will learn allll of the advanced techniques you’ll need to tackle virtually any Tunisian crochet project.
This new set of crochet hooks comes in two options: one size per hook OR two sizes per hook (for only another $10!)
My set pictured includes 14 Tunisian hooks (2 of each size):
7 (4.5mm)
H-8 (5.0mm)
I-9 (5.5mm)
J-10 (6.0mm)
K-10.5 (6.5 mm)
7mm
L-11 (8.0mm)
(4) Swivel Cables (2 each of 24″ and 32″ lengths)
(4) end caps and 2 cable keys
This is a remarkable deal considering this should be the only Tunisian hook set you’ll ever need. You can use just one hook for a flat project, a large flat project with the cable, or use two hooks connected by a cable for a project worked in the round. Individually sold larger hooks will be available soon which is great since we almost always bump up a hook size or two than what we would use with traditional crochet.
My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE thing about these new hooks?! The cords have a SWIVEL!!! 🤯
If you’ve worked Tunisian crochet in the round before you know that having the weight of all that fabric on your cable while also holding the hook in the proper orientation to pull up the stitches puts a strain on your wrist. That has always been the drawback to larger in-the-round Tunisian projects for me. The swivels on these cords literally eliminate that entire situation. LOVE!
Here are some Tunisian in the Round Patterns:
I used this new Tunisian crochet hook set to make the designs in my new pattern book, the Harvest Moon Tunisian Collection. This is a collection of five new, exclusive patterns that are available here. Read more about these designs and my own photos of the samples here.
This new Caspian Hook set is absolutely gorgeous. Look at those beautiful colors!
The wood and the hooks are similar to that of the Radiant Tunisian hook set, available as a set of one of each size instead of two as in the new set. These sets are similar but other improvements have also been made. Read on!
If you get your own Tunisian hook set, be sure to follow this tutorial for straightening the cords before use. It is so easy and 100% worth the minimal effort!
Benefits of using the new Caspian Tunisian Hook Set:
Ability to work flat projects. There are different lengths of cords included so feel free to attach whichever length will suffice for your project. You may not even need the cord depending on the width of the project you’re working on.
Ability to easily work Tunisian crochet in the round. Because this set comes with TWO hooks of each size you don’t have to worry about constantly switching hooks out in between the forward and backward pass, or having the wrong size of hook on one end. Although those workarounds do get the job done, it is a total pain.
With all other Tunisian hook sets I have purchased or even seen over the years, you need to buy two complete sets in order to be able to adequately work in the round. I LOVE that this is not the case with this set, and they are still at a great price point! Did I mention it’s only another $10 to get TWO sizes of each hook in your set? See the two different options at this link.
The swivel cords allow you to crochet for hours without your wrists getting sore. This has got to be my absolute favorite thing about these new hooks. When crocheting larger projects or ones using a heavy weight yarn, you will notice the strain that keeping the hook from rotating has on your wrist. It can get quite sore, or prevent you from continuing to crochet – or as a matter of fact to continue on with Tunisian crochet at all! Let’s not let that happen. The swivel on these cords is simply perfection. Just keep on crocheting, not having to worry about the drag the cords have on your hook, and without having to fight to keep the hook (and everything attached to it) from rotating.
The polished wood allows the hook to glide through the stitches while also allowing just enough grip. I find that using this set up I am able to crochet much more comfortably and for longer periods of time.
The hook-to-cord connectors are super secure using the included tool – don’t worry about your cables coming off and losing your progress. I keep all of my cable connectors, stoppers, and the tightening tool in the zipper portion of my carrying case.
If you’ve been waiting for a great new hook set, I can confidently say that you will love these. The swivel cords alone are worth every penny!
