12/18M Poncho Pattern

A HUGE thank you to Jaime for whipping up this size for me. Isn’t she just adorable?!

Kids grow so much in the transition months from infant to toddler. These short months fly right by and the good news is that these ponchos whip up even faster! Ponchos for days!

Sizes of this pattern include:

Newborn
3/6 Month
9/12 Month
12/18M (this one!)
2/3T
4/6 Youth
8/10 Youth
10/12 Youth

Find the adult sizes of this pattern here.

Materials:

Lightweight/Size 3/DK yarn (w/o fringe)
-approx. 275 yards for 12/18M

6mm hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)

Stitch marker

Gauge: 12 dc sts x 8 rows = 4”

Pattern Notes:

Start at the top and work your way down.

Pattern starts at the center back and is joined in rounds, turning each row.

Place first stitches of each row in the same space as join. (the ch-2 does not count as a stitch)

Odd numbered rows are “right side” and even numbered rows are “wrong side”. When finished with row 1, you could add a safety pin to remind you which side is which.

  1. Hi Linda! I loved this pattern so much but since I don’t have any baby girls in the family at the moment, I made some adjustments to the pattern, turning the bottom into “shorts” and using the middle bottom portion to button close. I would love to share the details and the pattern adjustments with you, if you are interested. I only have in progress pics as I was trying it on my nephew to find a good button placement. I don’t see a place to include attachments, but would love to share once I am finished! :)
  2. How can I figure out how many stitches for each row from row 3-7 with row 8 being 116, I am still pretty new and like to make sure I have the right amount at the end of each row but not sure how to figure out the ones from 3-7. Hope that makes sense and not sound stupid. :)
