Don’t you hate microwaving a bigger bowl in the microwave struggling to not burn your hands getting it out? If you’ve ever used a long, skinny towel and wished for a better option, this is it! This Microwave Hand Saver is the perfect thing for your kitchen. Let’s make one together!

Crochet Microwave Hand Saver

We tend to eat a lot of low-carb dinners around here. A lot of meat, chicken, and steamed vegetables. Since the easiest vegetable to cook is broccoli steamed in the microwave, I find myself using my big bowl quite frequently. I always tend to use my finger nails and try to grip the bowl as best I can to get it out, or I use a thinner kitchen towel, bunched up so I can grip the whole bowl and safely bring it out of the microwave.

After today that changes! This is the simplest, most life-saving kitchen design I’ve done for a while. I am taking my kitchen crochet up a notch with this one. With just 325 yards of 100% cotton (I used Dishie cotton in the “Swan” colorway) you’ll be grabbing big, steaming hot bowls out of the microwave with confidence in no time!

For the main portion of this pattern we are using the Thermal Stitch. This is great for kitchen things because it is thick and it offers great heat protection, especially when paired with the 100% cotton.

Ch-1, sc through both thicknesses (the granny square and the main portion) evenly around, placing 3sc in each corner st. When you get to the side of the granny square that needs to remain open (where you’ll insert your hand) sc across the granny square only, then pick back up with both thicknesses to complete the circumference of the granny. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Complete the same on the other end.

It would be fun to make the main body in the cream colorway, then bright colors for the hand pockets. What do you think?
