I try to spend as little time cleaning the kitchen as possible. I also don’t put pots and pans in the dishwasher so a good scrubby yarn dishcloth is in order! Whip up a Two-Sided Scrubby Dishcloth using this free crochet pattern to make kitchen clean up time go faster.
Two-Sided Scrubby Dishcloth Crochet Pattern
Don’t you love a good crocheted washcloth? I like to make washcloths when playing around with new crochet stitches. Not only do you learn the crochet stitch but you ALSO have something useful at the end. I use smaller ones as little plant coasters to brighten up my plant spaces.
There are a whole slew of crochet cloth patterns in my 2020 Washcloth Series.
Great for housewarming gifts or for cleaning your own kitchen. These scrubby dishcloths work great on stuck on bits on the countertop!
Materials:
Cotton yarn (like this)

Crochet hook in size H/5mm
Pattern Notes:
For this pattern we are using the Lemon Peel Stitch.

Finished dimensions: approx. 6″ square
Pattern:
Make two; one using each yarn.
Row 1: ch-19, sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next. * sc in next, dc in next * repeat between * * to end. (18)
Rows 2 – 15: Ch-1, * sc in next, dc in next * repeat between * * to end. (18)
After completing both squares, fasten off and weave in ends on the scrubby version only. (Do not fasten off with the cotton.)
Where cotton yarn is still attached, chain-1, turn, and lay the scrubby square on top of the cotton square.
Wanna save this for later?
Single crochet through both edges (scrubby and cotton) around entire square, placing 2 single crochets in each corner to avoid curling.
Note that when working your way down the sides of the dishcloths, be sure not to place too many stitches. Just space them evenly; one stitch per row end.
When you get around the entire square, fasten off leaving a ~12″ tail. Join using the Invisible Join method.
Using your yarn needle, feed the yarn through as close to the center of the dishcloth as you can.
Now we will make a little “X” in the center of both dishcloths so that the scrubby and cotton can not separate. Just sew a little X, then feed through it back through to the cotton side.
Securely weave in all ends. That’s it!
You should be able to get several complete two-sided scrubby dishcloths from one skein of each yarn. Isn’t that great?!
Whether you are gifting this two-sided scrubby dishcloth to a friend, a new neighbor, you are selling these at a craft fair, or using them yourself, I hope you love them! They are so quick to crochet, and easy too! Almost makes me want to go clean something. Almost. 😉
If you decide that the scrubby yarn is painful you can try wearing a glove on that hand. Or, you could follow the same pattern as above but hold the two yarn strands together instead of making two separate cloths. This is what that looks like:
I love that too! Which version will you make?
