I’ve been sitting on some scrubby yarn for a while now. I felt guilty for not ever playing with it, so I decided to whip up a Two-Sided Scrubby Dishcloth crochet pattern to share with you!
Two-Sided Scrubby Dishcloth Crochet Pattern
This scrubby dishcloth pattern is a spin-off of my larger, one-sided crochet pattern for washcloths. In fact, I think that pairing these two patterns together (perhaps along with the Mini Blind cleaner pattern and/or the Bottle Cleaner pattern) would be an excellent house warming gift. (I can’t bake cookies to save my life, but I sure can whip up a dishcloth, amirite?) The larger size is excellent for cleaning windows, wiping counters and dusting.
Materials:
Cotton yarn (like this) – approx. 30 yards (18 g)
Scrubby yarn (like this) – approx. 20 yards (20g)
Crochet hook in size H/5mm
Pattern Notes:
For this pattern we are using the Lemon Peel Stitch.
Place first stitch of row in same as turning (ie: chain does not count as a stitch)
Pattern written in US terms.
Finished dimensions:
Approx. 6″ square
Pattern:
Make two; one using each yarn.
Row 1: ch-19, sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next. * sc in next, dc in next * repeat between * * to end. (18)
Rows 2 – 15: Ch-1, * sc in next, dc in next * repeat between * * to end. (18)
After completing both squares, fasten off and weave in ends on the scrubby version only. (Do not fasten off with the cotton.)
Where cotton yarn is still attached, chain-1, turn, and lay the scrubby square on top of the cotton square.
Single crochet through both edges (scrubby and cotton) around entire square, placing 2 single crochets in each corner to avoid curling.
Note that when working your way down the sides of the dishcloths, be sure not to place too many stitches. Just space them evenly; one stitch per row end.
When you get around the entire square, fasten off leaving a 12″ (ish) tail. Join using the Invisible Join method.
Using your yarn needle, feed the yarn through as close to the center of the dishcloth as you can.
Now we will make a little “X” in the center of both dishcloths so that the scrubby and cotton can not separate. Just sew a little X, then feed through it back through to the cotton side.
Securely weave in all ends. That’s it!
In my calculations, you should be able to get FOUR of the cotton squares per regular sized (120 yard) skein, and about SIX of the scrubby squares per regular sized (125 yard) skein.
Whether you are gifting this two-sided scrubby dishcloth to a friend, a new neighbor, you are selling these at a craft fair, or using them yourself, I hope you love them! They are so quick to crochet, and easy too! Almost makes me want to go clean something. Almost. 😉
