I’ve been sitting on some scrubby yarn for a while now. I felt guilty for not ever playing with it, so I decided to whip up a Two-Sided Scrubby Dishcloth crochet pattern to share with you!

Two-Sided Scrubby Dishcloth Free Crochet Pattern

Two-Sided Scrubby Dishcloth Crochet Pattern

This scrubby dishcloth pattern is a spin-off of my larger, one-sided crochet pattern for washcloths. In fact, I think that pairing these two patterns together (perhaps along with the Mini Blind cleaner pattern and/or the Bottle Cleaner pattern) would be an excellent house warming gift. (I can’t bake cookies to save my life, but I sure can whip up a dishcloth, amirite?) The larger size is excellent for cleaning windows, wiping counters and dusting.

Materials:

Cotton yarn (like this) – approx. 30 yards (18 g)
Scrubby yarn (like this) – approx. 20 yards (20g)
Crochet hook in size H/5mm

Pattern Notes:

For this pattern we are using the Lemon Peel Stitch.
Place first stitch of row in same as turning (ie: chain does not count as a stitch)
Pattern written in US terms.

Finished dimensions:

Approx. 6″ square

Pattern:

Make two; one using each yarn.

Row 1: ch-19, sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next. * sc in next, dc in next * repeat between * * to end. (18)

Rows 2 – 15: Ch-1, * sc in next, dc in next * repeat between * * to end. (18)

After completing both squares, fasten off and weave in ends on the scrubby version only. (Do not fasten off with the cotton.)

Where cotton yarn is still attached, chain-1, turn, and lay the scrubby square on top of the cotton square.

How to make a two-sided dishcloth

Single crochet through both edges (scrubby and cotton) around entire square, placing 2 single crochets in each corner to avoid curling.

How to make a dual sided dishcloth

Note that when working your way down the sides of the dishcloths, be sure not to place too many stitches. Just space them evenly; one stitch per row end.

How to make a dual sided dishcloth

When you get around the entire square, fasten off leaving a 12″ (ish) tail. Join using the Invisible Join method.

How to make two pieces of dishcloth not come apart

Using your yarn needle, feed the yarn through as close to the center of the dishcloth as you can.

Now we will make a little “X” in the center of both dishcloths so that the scrubby and cotton can not separate. Just sew a little X, then feed through it back through to the cotton side.

Securely weave in all ends. That’s it!

In my calculations, you should be able to get FOUR of the cotton squares per regular sized (120 yard) skein, and about SIX of the scrubby squares per regular sized (125 yard) skein.

Whether you are gifting this two-sided scrubby dishcloth to a friend, a new neighbor, you are selling these at a craft fair, or using them yourself, I hope you love them! They are so quick to crochet, and easy too! Almost makes me want to go clean something. Almost. 😉

I LOVE this design. I've been 'stocking up' on the scrubby yarns to use for Christmas and I like your ideas of using this pattern plus the window cleaning scrubbies. thank you!

Hi Tina! You will need both regular cotton for one side and the scrubby for the other side of the dishcloth.

What would be the equivalent to Scruby Yarn in Australia? Or who would stock it?

Thank you for the super easy tutorial! My dishcloth turned out great and I love the lemon peel stitch! My only struggle was crocheting with the scrubby yarn. That stuff was stiff and it was hard to really see what I was doing. I got mine from Michael’s but I don’t remember the brand. Maybe yours from Hobby Lobby is better?

Hi Krissy! The scrubby yarn can be tricky to crochet with. You can try doing the scrubby side in HDC..the stitches will be easier to find and work into. Hope that helps!

In stead of making the two layers separately, would it work to make one layer with two strands of yarn, one of the cotton and one of the scrubbie yarn? I think I'll give it a try.

You can absolutely do that Marge! I would probably go up a hook size or two though.

Just finished my first one of these and absolutely love the results! Only adjustment was I went up a hook size for the cotton yarn to accommodate the loose gauge I got with the scrubby yarn and it worked out perfectly. I’m sure I’ll be making more of these. Thanks for the pattern :)

So excited to try this. I give dishcloths every year to my co-workers as part of their Christmas gifts. They are going to love this addition. Thanks for all that you do Ashlea.
