Zoe’s Pillow Cover Pattern

Who doesn’t need more throw pillows? I know I can always use another throw pillow in this house and I love this one so much I think I’ll make a whole matching set for the upstairs couches. Can you imagine this pillow cover using off white and cream yarn? What about a fun yellow and a nice rich orange, or purple and black for Halloween? I might have to make one of those!

For this pattern I used scrap yarn left over from making Zoe’s Tunisian Blanket. That blanket is 9 strips wide and has wider strips than the pillow but the concept is the same.

The yarn is Herrschners worsted in “Dark Grey” and “Raspberry“. If you get three skeins of the Worsted 8 “Dark Grey” and three skeins of the “Raspberry” you’d have enough to make both patterns as well!

This pillow insert is 16″ square and the pillow cover itself is closer to 13″ (33cm) x 40″ (101cm). We want it to have to stretch a bit so that the fabric is nice and taut. We add five (5) 1″ buttons to each strip to secure the ends. The buttons don’t need buttonholes, just feed them through the other side. This means you can also remove the pillow cover to launder it. Excellent!

The pattern is made in Tunisian Chevron strips using a join as you go technique. A video tutorial is included below.

Customize the size of your pillow cover by working strip rows to your desired length, and adding strips until desired width is reached.

In Tunisian crochet, the first loop on hook counts as a st and is included in st count.
