Card Carrier: Free Crochet Pattern

My wallet is full to bursting with random cards. Whether that’s rewards cards for the grocery stores, loyalty cards for the oil change place, the discount cards to local businesses sold by the high school football team, or the fact that I’ve been patiently saving up punches for 15% off my next salon service, it’s safe to say I need some help staying organized.

If you sell your finished crochet projects, you may have business cards as well. This card carrier is a great way to keep the edges from getting dirty or torn. Nobody wants to give out – or get – crusty business cards. 🙃

This is the 9th free pattern in the year-long 2023 One Skein series. During this series I share one new free pattern per month that uses less than one skein of yarn.

This pattern uses less than one skein of the adorable little Animation yards, a new mercerized cotton from WeCrochet. Sold in 10-pks of an assortment of coordinating colors, the possibilities are endless.

Normally intended to be used for amigurumi crochet (stuffed animals, etc) this yarn is size 3/DK weight and is treated (mercerized) for strength and durability. Just because it’s intended for stuffies doesn’t mean we can’t use it for other things as well!

I must say, this little card carrier turned out way more chic than I expected. If you’ve been following Heart Hook Home for long you know that my passion in crochet is to create crochet patterns that have a purpose, are practical, and something we’ll actually use. Well, this one is all that AND it’s cute too! I love the texture of the stitches, and choosing the right button makes all the difference, don’t you think?

how to crochet a business card carrier

Materials:

Animation yarn (size 3/DK mercerized cotton)
-approx. 35 yards

Crochet hook in size 3mm

Gauge: 21 sts in 3”

Pattern Notes:

Pattern written using US terms.

Sc2tog = single crochet two together. Insert hook in designated space and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), insert hook in next space and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), YO, pull through all three loops. Stitch made!

Work in a spiral for the first 4 rows and the final 3 rows. The main body is joined and turned each round.

I find it particularly helpful to count after each round of the main body portion. It can be easy to misplace the first or last stitch of those rows so counting really helps!

  1. I DO love the card carrier! I can also see making one with thinner yarn to fit better in my jeans pocket to hold my driver's license and making one with maybe worsted yarn to help my elderly relatives locate their ID and insurance cards more easily in their purses. Thank you for the pattern!
