C2C Crochet Cocoon Pattern
A while back we learned how to create Corner to Corner crochet in the ROUND instead of literally crocheting from one corner to the other diagonally. The benefits of this construction are numerous, but my favorite is the fact that you start in the center and continue growing the square until you reach the desired size.
This could be anything from a baby blanket, to a throw blanket, to a crochet cocoon!
I think what I love most about the concept of making a Corner to Corner cocoon is the sizing. Before seaming, the rectangle is roughly the size of a baby blanket. What that means is that you could virtually use ANY baby blanket pattern and do the same thing. As long as the dimensions are similar, seam it and cuff it, baby! 🤩
Here are some baby blanket patterns that you could use for a similar effect:

…or make a Classic Granny Square to size!
Now that we’ve learned how to C2C in the Round, we’ve got our yarn and hook in hand, let’s crochet!

C2C Cocoon Materials:
Worsted weight (size 4) yarn in 4 colors (yardage listed is for “petite” size)
Approx. 1550 yards total
-C1-Mango – 610 yards
-C2-Sea Blue – 420 yards
-C3-Light Gray – 290 yds
-C4-Ivory – 230 yards
Crochet hook in size I/5.5mm
Gauge:
After round 3 measures 5” across
After round 5 measures 8” across
Pattern Notes:
Pattern written using US terms.
Each round adds four new blocks to the total, one block per side.
Ch-2 on edging rounds does not count as a stitch.
As with traditional Corner to Corner crochet, each block/square is made up of three double crochet stitches.
The final block/square of each side should be 4 sts wide. The 4th double crochet will be used to create the first block of the next square side.
For the edging we are using Fp/Bp Double Crochet. Find a full tutorial, including video, at this link.
Technically speaking, use any size yarn with the corresponding hook size and simply grow your square to the indicated dimension for your size. Yardage will vary from what is listed in pattern.
Square before seaming should measure approximately 36”, 38”, or 40”.

Decreasing Corners:
Row 1: Turn work to the left so the working yarn is in front of the stitches. Skip first st, loosely sl st in next. Sl st in next st. * ch-2, 3dc around ch-sp, join to top of next block * repeat between * * until you run out of blocks.

*Repeat rows 1-(22, 23, 25) for each corner.
Construction:
Lay square flat. Fold all four corners in, with the points nearly reaching in the middle.
Sew along the horizontal seam from the inside out on each side leaving 12 blocks open for an armhole (about 9”) on all sizes. If needed, here’s a short video on how to fold and sew a cocoon:
Edging:
Set up row/Row 1 will be working in between the c2c blocks as in this video on how to add a border to crochet projects (that link should be queued to specific part of video automatically).
Pick a side to be your front/good side and attach in any space between c2c squares along inner edging with sl st.
Row 1: Ch-1, sc in same sp, ch-2 * sc in next sp, ch-2 * Repeat between * * around entire front opening. Join with sl st to 1st sc. (92, 96, 102 ch-2 spaces)
Row 2: Ch-2 (does not count as a st). Do not turn. Dc in same st. 3dc in each ch-2 sp around. (277, 289, 307)
Row 3: Ch-2, do not turn. Fpdc around 1st st. * Bpdc around next st, Fpdc around next st * Repeat between * * around. Join to first st with sl st. (277, 289, 307)
*tutorial for this technique can be found here.

Rows 5-8: Repeat rows 2 & 3 (277, 289, 307)
Fasten off using invisible join and weave in ends.
Cuffs:
With right side facing, attach in seam at bottom of arm opening with a sl st.
Row 1: Ch-1, sc in same sp, ch-2 * sc in next sp, ch-2 * Repeat between * * around cuff opening. Join with sl st to 1st sc. (12 ch-2 spaces)
Row 2: Ch-2 (does not count as a st). Do not turn. Dc in same st. 3dc in each ch-2 sp around. (37)
