    1. Hi Faith! Yes, many of my patterns, which are free on my blog, are available as an ad-free printable pdf format on Ravelry or Etsy for a small charge.
  1. Great pattern! I did not watchel the video. My question is where you begin with chains and doing the hdc across. Assuming that the hanging tail, I am to use a needle to "stitch" into the first chain of the beginning or end of the hdc and tuck and hide? I might have missed it in the directions 5 times but I really didn't see anything about that part...
  2. Thank you for the free pattern. I gave an 8 week old 2.8 pound fur baby who was born in Florida and going to her new home in Virginia in 2 days. I'm going to make this for her to use on the drive home and at home for as long as she can fit into it. I want to make another one as she grows. Do you have a pattern with a hole in the middle of the back to hook a leash to a harness? Is there an easy way to incorporate that into this pattern? Thank you again for the pattern and your help.
      1. What I did is if you do the same things for the leg holes on the top by just eyeballing where your harness hits, it works out. My explanation is not that scientific but I just put the harness on my pup, and then just kept trying on the sweater until I got a good spot. I made the chain about 4 chains long, but it may be different based on your harness. Hope this helps!
  3. Wanted to say thank you for the pattern! My cat has been chilly this winter year but she's a very small size (only like 6 1/2-7 lbs) and nothing ever seems to fit her right. I ended up measuring her and she was just a smidge bigger than small but not quite medium so I did an in-between on the sizes and it came out perfect (and I'm sure once she realizes it helps keep her warm she will agree lol).
  4. Hi! My sister has a female chihuahua/min pin mix that is hard to find a XXS dog clothes for her. Because XS dog cloths are way to big for her. Just wondering where can I find XXS a dog clothes crochet patterns to crochet
      1. You basically need to decrease by 10 stitches. Based on her pattern, an XXS would be: Collar: Row 1: Fhdc– (2) (or ch- (24) Chest/Body: Row (7, 9, 11): Ch-1, do not turn. (sc, dc) in first st. * sk next st, (sc, dc) in next * repeat between * * around, sk next, (sc, dc, sc) in last st. Join to top of first sc with sl st. Stitch count: (25) Row (8, 10, 12): Ch-1, turn, (sc, dc) in first st. * sk next st, (sc, dc) in next * repeat between * * around, sk next, (sc, dc, sc) in last st. Join to top of first sc with sl st. Stitch count: (27) Rows (9, 11, 13) through (13, 17, 25): repeat previous row. Stitch count: (37) Row (14, 18, 26): Ch-1, turn, (sc, dc) in first st. * sk next st, (sc, dc) in next * repeat between * * around (do not do the extra sc). Join to top of first sc with sl st. Stitch count: (38) Armholes: Row (15, 19, 27): Ch-1, turn * sk next st, (sc, dc) in next * repeat between * * (0,1, 2) more times. (2, 4, 6 sts total so far). Sk next st, sc in next. Ch-(7, 11, 15), sk-(9, 13, 17) sts. In next sc, place (sc, dc). Repeat between * * (10, 11, 17) more times. Sk next st, sc in next. Ch-(7, 11, 15), sk-(9, 13, 17) sts. In next sc, place (sc, dc). Repeat between * * to end. Join to top of first sc with sl st. Stitch count: (34) Row (16, 20, 28): Ch-1, turn. * Sk next st, (sc, dc) in next * repeat between * * around (including chains). Join to top of first sc with sl st. Stitch count: (34) Rows (17, 21, 29) through (20, 30, 44): Ch-1, turn, * sk next st, (sc, dc) in next * repeat between * * around. Join to top of first sc with sl st. Stitch count: (34) Begin body tapering: Row (21, 31, 45): Ch-1, turn, sl st in first (2, 4, 6,) sts, * sk next st, (sc, dc) in next * repeat between * * (18, 23, 32) more times. Sk next st, sc in next. (leave remaining 2, 4, 6) sts unworked) Stitch count: (29) not including sl sts. Row (22, 32, 46): Ch-1, turn, sk first 2 sts, * (sc, dc) in next, sk next st * repeat between * * (17, 22, 30) more times. Sc in next st. Stitch count: (27) Row (23, 33, 47): Ch-1, turn, sk first 2 sts, * (sc, dc) in next, sk next st * repeat between * * (16, 21, 29) more times. Sc in next st. Stitch count: (25) I HIGHLY recommend watching her video tutorial while doing this, and just remember to do 10 less stitches. Good luck!
        1. Would you have any hints as to how to substitute a sk weight yarn? Would it just be a matter of adding stitches to get the same size?
    1. Hi, thanks for asking that question. I too have the same type dog , it’s very hard to find clothes for her. I hope she can guide us to the right direction. I love all her patterns and her videos are awesome.
  5. I'm trying to make this dog sweater for my sister in law's dog who is between a size S and M. His neck is 14". I was thinking of doing a M but I feel like the back side would be too long for him. I think from his collar up to before his tail is 15". And when you say go up a size on the hook does that mean use a 6mm hook? Sorry for all the questions. Thank you.
  6. Rows 7 thru 13 you say you increase each row by 2. When I read through the pattern I only see where you increase only one in the end of each row when you are doing sc, dc, sc. Where is the other "increase" done?
    1. Hi! The other "increase" comes from the pattern: you start let's say with 43 stiches, and do SC, DC in every other stich, so you will have 22x2=44 stiches when you reach the end of the row. And then you will add the increase with the second SC in the last stich, resulting you have altogether 45 stiches in that row.
  7. Hello. These are so nice :) you are really good. I was wondering if it would be ok to translate your pattern to swedish? Kind Regards Helene
  8. Hello! Love your patterns and this one in particular!! If I wanted to extend the underbelly portion to cover more of the tummy area, should I just repeat the rows after adding arm holes but before body tapering? Is there a way you’d advise decreasing stitches to make it more snug around the belly? Thanks so much!!!
  9. Hi! Luv yr pattern - this is so cute as are yr puppies. Wanted to make this for my son's dog & possibly the neighbours mini pom & Other pup (can't think of name of species). I was trying to make the gauge swatch but ran into a problem - when I follow pattern for rows 1 & 2 (using ch 18) my swatch meas. 5"w. Should I use a smaller hook or less chains to start pattern. Sorry, am not very good at figuring these things out. Many tks. I read all the comments & did not see any pertaining to my question. U r a great designer & luv yr patterns. tk u for sharing them with us.
    1. Hi Helen! The gauge swatch slightly is larger than it needs to be so that when you measure you are only including inside stitches, not the outside stitches that are not uniform in shape, you will be wanting 14 sts (or 7 sc,dc sets) in 4 inches. If your whole swatch is measuring 5", I'm thinking you are pretty close to gauge. Hope this helps
  10. Hi, I'm currently making a size small and I'm have the hardest time reading thr Armholes part. After you do the first arm hole it tells you to repeat that 11 more times..thats not possible. There isn't that many stitches. Also you would have 4 holes? That doesn't make anysense to me. Can anyone help? I'm sorry of I didn't word this very well.
    1. Hi Sara! Did you watch the companion video for this pattern? It is located within this pattern post and may help.
  11. Hi! I love this pattern but need help. I am at the body tampering part for the 2nd time. I don't know what I am doing wrong as the tapper keeps ending up on the side instead of the back!! Please help! Its driving me crazy!!
    1. Hi Pat! Did you try watching the companion video located within this pattern post? Without seeing what's going on, the video may help more that I can at this point. If you watch it and are still struggling, you can send me a message along with a pic to support@hearthookhome.com or to the Heart Hook Home FaceBook page.
  12. I LOVE your doggies ! And I usually don’t even bother with videos, they tend to confuse me ! But I’m so glad I watched your video! Great tutorial and so easy to understand everything!! I’m making these for all of my 4 (& one 3) legged friends! Thank you for sharing your awesome talent ! I’m also going to be purchasing this, you share so much! This one will be used over and over again! Well worth the price!
  13. Oh my GOD I am so dumb, I just realized I did TWENTY FIVE thicket stitch rows instead of just 15 (row 10-25) !!!!!! At least I got some good practice in there!!!! Good grief...
  14. Hi I'm really confused as to what I've done wrong! I've completed my first 25 rows (of thicket stitch, not including the collar) and it says I should have 84 stitches but I have like 100! I can't tell what I did wrong by reading the pattern (Im a beginner so I am also not super well versed on fixing things or knowing what causes mistakes specifically) Please help! The stitch is super easy but the thought of ripping it all out and doing it again makes my head spin LOL! I don't want to do it unless I know exactly how to fix it!!!
    1. Hi Katie! If making the XS, then it is after row 23 where it says continue decreasing until reaching row 36.
      1. Am I the only one who is struggling with the gauge I usually skip it but I’m making this as a Gauge Row 1: Ch-18. (sc, dc) in 2nd ch from hook. * sk next ch, (sc, dc) in next * repeat between * * 6 more times. Sk next ch, sc in last. (17) Somehow I can’t seem to get it. I get the first decrease done. Then I can only get 5 out of the 6 more decreases before I run out of chains. Help!!!!
        1. Hi Emilee! Sorry you are struggling with this. Each row should have a total of 8 sc,dc sets plus the sc in last stitch. It sounds like you may be accidentally skipping more than 1 chain in between some of those. You could maybe try doing a solid sc foundation row (17 sts)...that may make it easier when following the pattern rows. Just make sure not to count that sc row in your gauge. Hope this helps!
  15. I was asked to make this for a very small dog. He’s 1lb, neck is 4.5” and chest is 9”. Should I attempt to decrease the pattern to a starting chain of 23?? I obviously don’t want it to be too small but they have a hard time finding something small enough for him.
  16. You are hands down one of my favorite crochet designers. I love your patterns. They're always easy to follow and always come out beautifully!
  17. Hi I love this pattern! I am already having trouble on the second row though :/ I have all 43 hdc stitches ready to go, but when I started the fphdc, the last stitch was a bphdc and not a front one. I've redone this at least four times but can't seem to figure it out.
  18. I love this pattern. Thank you so much. I am going to buy it so I always have it once I get paid. I have three dogs as well as being a dog walker so I will get a ton of use out of this pattern. Also your pups are all so adorable❤️
  19. I love this pattern ! It is so beautiful! I am interested to know how I would make this pattern in the L and XL size rather than with the buttons. I started how you began the L pattern but am not sure how many rows of the Thickett Stitch I am supposed to do before I start the arm holes OR the pattern to follow for the arm holes. Can you help me with this? Or is this pattern in L or XL available to purchase somewhere?
  20. Hello, could you list the abbreviations please, I’m a new crotcheter in the UK and want to make this for my new working cocker spaniel puppy.
    1. STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS Ch = Chain Sl st = Slip Stitch SC = Single Crochet SC2tog = Single Crochet 2 stitches together BLO = Back Loop St(s) = Stitch(es) Rep = Repeat Sk = Skip
  21. I’m not the most experienced at crochet but my friends tiny dog has been getting cold. So I searched for a pattern I could try. I am so glad I found this one!! It takes a moment to get the hang of it. But the video really helps. Most definitely a new subscriber here!! Thank you so much!
  22. Hi!!! Loved the pattern, finishing size M, and it looks awesome! I need a size between M and L, is there such a thing? The M fits me pekingese perfectly, but my pintscher-dauchaund mix is way stockier yet the same length as him.... What should I do?
  23. I'm not sure that I'm doing row for Armholes correct. In size M, after the last armhole, should you end with the same number of (sc,dc) as you started (6)? My mind is trying to keep it even, but to do so, I must decrease the number of sts skipped after the last chain. I've re-crocheted it several times & decided I must be doing something wrong. I'm excited to make this sweater for my neighbor's dog. Thank you!
    1. Hi Mearla! Yes, you should have the same number of sc,dc sets at the end as the beginning of the round.
  24. Hi please can you help me ?! would the small size fit a pug puppy, my friend has asked me to crochet her puppy a jumper for her. The only measurements I have are: 23 cm around her neck 21cm long from neck to tail 12cm shoulder to shoulder. Thank you Elizabeth
  25. You say you are increasing by 2 stitches in rows 9 thru 13 in the XS size. I can only figure one. Can you advise?
    1. Say you had 24 sts in row 7, row 8 you are adding in am extra sc at the end which in turn for the next row gets a sc&dc plus the extra one on end of row to make it an increase of 2. Does that help.
  26. Pls help!!! I need to make a size that's slightly bigger than XS for my morkie. Neck size is 8" but chest size is 15". Thank you!
    1. Hi Rizza! You could make the XS size and just go up a hooks size for the chest/body portion. Hope this helps!
  27. Love the pattern! Easy to follow and it turned out super cute. I altered it to fit my thick necked, short body, full figured Frenchie. He looks adorable in it!!!! My husband says he looks like a “momma’s boy”
  28. Makes a beauty of a sweater. One of my favorite stitches. My great granddaughter just got a rescue and she’s gonna love this.
    1. Acrylic does have some stretch to it, but I have not had an issue with my dog sweaters stretching out of shape. Hope this helps!
  29. Holaaa!!! Serían tan adorables de enviarme la traducción en español para hacer la parte del cuerpo gracias
  30. The lovely and adorable idea that you are giving to crochet lovers. It's so Impressive and useful. thanks for the attractive and beautiful ideas.
  31. Creative and useful thoughts.nice idea of crochet for crochet lovers. thanks for the amazing idea.
  32. Row 22 should say repeat 17 more times (not 18) for size small and Row 23 should say repeat 16 (not 17) more times (for small). It’s the word “more” that would cause you to make too many stitches. Thank you.
  33. I am a beginner, but a fast learner. I am struggling with the transition between rows 1 and 2 of the collar. Is there any possibility of a video showing how to make this happen.
  34. Why am I so co fused as to why there is row 9, 10, and 11 it looks like twice.... am I just not getting it tonight? I've read it and read it then start4d the pattern and now have no clue which row 9 I should of done because I thought I was on row 11 and found the 9 again...
    1. Hi Sabrina, I was thoroughly lost as well when I got to “Rows 5 through (6,8,10). I read through the comments and found that no one had explained how to read this part of the pattern. I finally found an explanation on a completely different website and wanted to pass it along to you. It reads like this: If you are making the extra small, you crochet rounds 5 and 6. If you are making the small size, you crochet rounds 5 through 8. If you are making the medium size, you crochet rounds 5 through 10. So what is in the parentheses are the number of rows you need to crochet depending on what size sweater you are making. Now when you move on to the next step, you are on row 7 if making the extra small, row 9 if making the small and row 11 if making the medium. Hopefully this helps!
      1. I am very confused with this pattern. I am trying to make the medium size but when I go through to round (7,911 )my stitch is a lot more than 55.
        1. Hi Alana! I'm sorry you are having trouble. I'm not sure why you would have a lot more than 55 sts...are you remembering to skip a stitch between the (sc,dc) clusters? That's the only thing I can think of without seeing it. If you need more in depth help, you can email support@hearthookhome.com or message the Heart Hook Home Facebook page.
      2. Thank you so much for clarifying that. It has been driving me crazy. I was just about to ask for an explanation when I saw your comment.
  35. Sizing help, please!!! My daughter's furbaby (Mini Doxie) is right at the "edge" of S / M sizes ..... Neck 11" Chest 19" Also, would like to use a variegated or ombre coloring .... Any suggestions? Thank you!!! :)
    1. Hi Sherrie! I would probably stick with the small and maybe go up a hook size after completing the collar portion. As for variegated or ombre...either would work nicely, however I am a fan of ombre ;) Hope this helps!
  36. Can you please help? I’m on row 32 (making a size small). The skip first 2 stitches, does that mean the slip stitches or the first 2 actual stitches? Thank you in advance! I’m obsessed with this dog sweater! It’s SUPER CUTE!
    1. I literally just finished the size small sweater today. You turn after the ch1 so you will be working the opposite end of the piece (the slip stitches will be at the end of row 32, not the beginning). Skip the first 2 stitches so your hook goes into the first sc after the first dc. You'll end row 32 before you reach the slip stitches from the previous row. Hope this helps. Love how mine turned out, need to make another one now.
  37. Hi Ashlea! I LOVE your site and patterns and I'm so excited to see these sweaters. Your dogs are so cute I can't stand it! I haven't been able to buy or crochet a dog sweater that will fit my boston terrier/pug mix since she's shaped like a barrel with virtually no neck. Any tips on how I could adapt this pattern to fit her better? I'm sure it will fit my little normally shaped schnauzer just perfectly the way it is written. Thanks! :)
  38. I figured it out. Sorry for the panic. I need up at row 13 with 47 stitches I should have know better. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME pattern.
  39. I am soooooooooo confused. I LOVE this pattern but am totally baffled. I am currently working on rows 9-13. I have done row 9 three times and can't seem to come up with 47 stitches. I only get 37. HELP!!!!
  40. I wish I could find a decent sweater for a large dog. My girl is 56lbs lab/poodle cross and I would love to make one for her.
    1. Hi Deanna! I just published the big dog sweater sizes! They can be found here: https://hearthookhome.com/easy-crochet-dog-sweater-large-dogs/
  41. You just don’t understand how happy I got when you posted this... I just recently lost my job and I’m trying to desperately make things to sell to get my mortgage paid and get my girls and I by until I get another job lined up. Thank you so much, Ashlea
    1. My only question is for the decrease it says decrease down to 9 sts. I want to make sure that is 9 stitches and not 9 sets of the sc,dc. The pic it almost looks like 9 sets, but I'm not positive. Lmao
