Halley’s Scarf Keyhole Crochet Scarf Pattern

When making the Comet Keyhole Tunisian Crochet Scarf on my walks recently (I share them on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Threads), so many of you asked for a traditional crochet version of this beautiful scarf. The great news is that there was already a perfect yarn for it, and it works up with a lovely drape and the color transitions are absolutely stunning!

This scarf, as well as the fingerless gloves pattern, is crocheted using the Star Stitch. This is a fun, beautiful crochet stitch that creates a nice plush fabric. Watch a full tutorial for this stitch here. It’s easier than you think.

The Halley’s Keyhole scarf is the sister to the Comet Keyhole scarf.

For this keyhole scarf pattern we are using one colorful skein of the Satura yarn and one skein of solid Satura yarn. If you want to go ahead and make the matching set of Halley’s fingerless gloves (coming soon!)… grab one extra skein of the colorful yarn. Yep… just THREE skeins total for BOTH accessories! That’s a wonderful and inexpensive Christmas gift set right there.

I had my girls help with modeling and I love the contrast of Maisey’s speckled fur to the rainbow scarf! And of course Sophie is as pretty as ever. She just turned one year old last month and she’s such a good girl!

-approx. (290) yards “Pegasus”
-approx. (220) yards “White”

Crochet hook in size 5mm or size needed to obtain gauge

Yarn needle

Tassel Maker (optional)

Gauge: 9 Stars in 4” width

Sizing: Measures approximately 16” wide and 42” long

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Finishing: Attach white yarn at the beginning of row 74 (where we started the white, and looking at the “Right Side”).

Ch-1, sc evenly to corner, 3sc in corner st, sc across top of scarf, 3sc in corner st, rotate and sc evenly to the end of row 74. Change to the colorful yarn and sc evenly down the length of the scarf, 5sc in point and rotate to work up the opposite side. Fasten off using Invisible Join. Weave in all ends.

Block to 16” Wide x 42” Long.

Optional: Make one 4” long tassel using remaining MC yarn. Attach to point using yarn needle.
