Samson the Sloth Bookmark

We already have several bookmarks in this series. We have a monkey, a duck, a koala, a rabbit, a frog, a giraffe, an elephant, a pig, and a nerdy bookworm.  We can’t have a bookmark collection without a sloth!

Materials:

Crochet hook in size G/4mm
Medium brown worsted weight yarn for body (Warm Brown colorway)
Small bit of brown worsted weight yarn for eyes (Coffee colorway)
Small bit of cream colored worsted weight yarn for face (Buff colorway)
small Safety eyes (or small back buttons if not for small child)
Stuffing
Crochet hook in size B/2.25 mm

Notes:

*Work in a spiral, do NOT join at the end of each round
*Use your stitch marker to note the beginning stitch of each row.

Remember that you want to use Invisible Decrease for the sc2tog (decreases).  It helps to create a prettier, smoother transition in amigurumi.

How to crochet a sloth

Construction:

Position eyes about 3 rows from center of face. Use pins to decide placement. Sew on the eyes. I find my new, pointy, bent needle to be helpful in getting in those little stitches!

Add a small nose by inserting your needle to span just the first round of stitches as pictured. I made my nose the thickness of three strands of yarn.

Sew on a small, curved mouth and add the eyes (if you haven’t already).

Use the dark brown yarn to give him three little claws on each side of the bottom.

You are finished! I hope you love your little sloth bookmark. Will you call yours Samson as well?

Are you able to email the sloth and money patterns? My aunt wants to make them for my kids and isn’t good with the internet and would rather follow a printed pattern.

Dear Ashlea, Could you try and re-write the sentence to explain how to do the eyes ... with other words? I just do not understand what needs to be done after the 6dc. Thanks and otherwise congrats on the website and patterns, I already did two and even a super beginner like me managed to create something beautiful! Best. G.E.M.

Hi! I am sorry that is confusing you! When you place the 6 DCs in that last chain, you will be turning your work so that you will be working the remaining stitches into the bottom side of your starting chain...essentially making an oval shape. Does this help?

Yes, it did, thanks!!! Sorry, it took me a while to get back to the project and to you, I think I managed. Thanks so much again. g.e.m. PS A small tutorial on how to embroider those little stitches as neatly as you do would also really help.
