Bottom (optional):

Sc in each row end around bottom of cardigan. Fasten off and weave in all ends. And now your 12 month cardigan is almost finished!

Adding Elbow Patches:

Using a sharp darning needle, whip stitch the elbow patches into place.

Sewing on elbow patches

Of course, you do not have to add the elbow patches, especially to the 12 month cardigan size. If you do, however, I cut one of the patches into two smaller sizes for this 12 month cardigan, and I’ll use the other patch cut into two for the 2/3t size when that is completed!

  1. Hi Ashlea, I love your patterns. Sonny's Baby Blanket is a go-to for baby gifts for me. Is it possible to purchase an ad-free copy of the Classroom Cardigan. I would love to have the visual references and can't seem to copy them. Thanks, Beverley
    1. Hi Beverley! I am so glad you have been enjoying my patterns. The Classroom Cardigan pdf includes all child's sizes and can be purchased here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cozy-classroom-cardigan
  2. Hi Ashlea: Love this pattern but I'm stuck! The 12 mo pattern calls for at the beginning: Row 25: Ch-1, hdc in 25 sts, ch-16. (41) Row 26: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. (40) Rows 27 – 36: Ch-1, hdc in each st to end. (40) How in the world does this work to ch 16 and then HDC 40 across? HDC in 2nd chain from the hook makes it so you are going in the wrong direction. I was watching to video and this doesn't happen with the adult size?
  3. Hi I was wondering what yarn you used for the toddler cardigan? It is so beautiful and I would love to use the same color.
  4. I started with one cardigan in green I liked but once you visit it changes to a brown one I don’t like. Where is the green pattern. I find this habit of changing patterns very annoying.
  5. Hi, I am making the size 2T/3T sweater. My question is, after stitching the shoulder seams, how many open (unused) rows should there be at the back of the neck? It doesn’t seem like there’s room for his neck. Thank you Molly
    1. Hi Molly! There should be 2 open stitches at the neck. I know it may not seem like enough, but adding the collar really opens that neck area up. Hope this helps!
  6. I watched the video for the small size on youtube and you started the sleeve connection with hdc2tog then hdc all through . My question is that can I do the same procedure with size 12 months Thanks alot my dear
    1. Hi Khadijah! You should be fine with 32 stitches around, but if you would rather add in a couple of hdctog to get it down to 30, that would work too. Hope this helps!
  7. Hello my dear I am doing the 12 months pattern and I reached the armhole and did the first row of the sleeve and I got 32 hdc instead of 30 is that okay!?? Thanks for the beautiful pattern
  8. Hello my dear Very happy to see your free pattern for this nice jacket . Do you think Caron simply soft yarn will be good for this jacket?? Thanks alot
  9. I just took measurements for the 12 month size and everything is right except the sleeve length is off by an inch. Where would I add the length?
    1. Hi Kimberly! Just add a couple of HDC rows to the end of the sleeve before doing row 19. Hope this helps!
  10. Hi there. You don’t mention gauge on your pattern? I’d like to use a chunky yarn instead of Afgan - pls advise on gauge :)
  11. What yarn did you use in this patter for the child's cardigan? It's gorgeous, but I didn't see that color in the Red Heart line recommended in the article.
    1. Hi! I do my hdc stitches with a chain 1 and in the second chain from hook. Have you watched this video? I think it will help! http://hearthookhome.com/crochet-front-post-and-back-post-crochet-stitches/
  12. Hi I’m having trouble understanding this pattern, one lapel has 24 rows, and the other only has 12, then the back only has 8, please explain
    1. Hmm, I will look at the pattern again, but you should have equal numbers of stitches on both sides (if you want to mark them I find that helpful). If you'd like to send me a photo of what you've got so far I will take a look. Thanks! ashlea@hearthookhome.com
  13. I would like to learn how to do a granny square. I've had several seizures and i can't quite get it. Is there any way you can dumb it down for me, please.
  14. I end know how to do the they, so would I chain 2 more and start in the second chain from the hook? In the PCC for Children you gave the option and didn't on this pattern. Or where can I learn how to do the foundation hdc? Thanks, and you are brilliant.
    1. If you look carefully you will find the instructions on how to do it with just doing it with a chain instead of the fhdc. 12 month size instructions. in () Im old school and just do it with a regular chain.
